The Miami University baseball team begins Mid-American Conference play this weekend as it travels to Kent State for a three-game series. Due to inclement weather, Friday's game has been postponed. The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. The series will conclude Sunday with a single game starting at 1 p.m.
ABOUT KENT STATE
The Golden Flashes are the defending MAC regular season and tournament champions, and were the preseason pick to win the league in 2019. So far Kent State is 8-10 this season. It has won its last four games in a row after a slow start against a tough schedule, sweeping a doubleheader from Northwestern last Friday, and then defeating Pittsburgh, 6-4, in a midweek game on Wednesday. The Golden Flashes top offensive threat in 2019 has been senior catcher Pete Schuler. He is hitting .359 with three home runs and 13 RBIs. Their top pitcher is scheduled Friday starter, senior Connor Wollersheim. While the lefty has a tough luck record of 1-3, he has a 1.88 ERA and 33 strikeouts in 28.2 innings pitched.
SERIES WITH KENT STATE
Kent State holds a 113-83-1 lead in the all-time series between the two schools. Sunday's game will be the 200th all-time between the RedHawks and the Golden Flashes. Kent State won three of the five meetings last season. Miami took two out of three in the regular season, May 17-19. The Golden Flashes then won two times in the MAC Tournament the following week to eliminate the RedHawks and win the MAC Championship.
UP AHEAD
Miami gets its first opportunity against a nationally ranked opponent on Tuesday when it travels to fourth-ranked Louisville. First pitch is at 6 p.m. and it will stream online on ACC Network Extra. The RedHawks return home next weekend for a MAC series against Eastern Michigan. On Friday, March 29 the game will begin at 5 p.m. It will start at 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 30 and the Sunday, March 31 first pitch will be at 1 p.m.
