
Baseball Knocks Off Murray State 10-3

MURRAY, Ky. – The Miami University baseball team jumped on Murray State early as it closed out the series with a 10-3 win. The RedHawks improve to 4-3 on the season, while the Racers fall to 2-5.
Sophomore centerfielder Cristian Tejada led off the game with a double to centerfield. One batter later, junior first baseman Charlie Harrigan drew a walk. Freshman designated hitter Cole Andrews singled to left field to score Tejada and put Miami on the board. With two outs, junior shortstop Will Vogelgesang beat out a bunt for a single. On the play the Racer first baseman booted the ball, allowing Harrigan to score. Redshirt junior leftfielder Kyle Winkler followed with a double to left, scoring Andrews and Vogelgesang and making it 4-0.
Murray State got one run back in the bottom of the first. In the top of the fourth, a walk from Winkler and singles from sophomore right fielder Parker Massman and junior second baseman Colin Shepherd loaded the bases. Junior third baseman Landon Stephens drew the walk to force home Winkler. Harrigan then hit a sac fly to center, scoring Massman and giving Miami a 6-1 lead.
Leading 6-2 in the top of the eighth, the 'Hawks put the game away with four runs in the frame. With the bases loaded and no one out, Tejada and Stephens each drew walks to force in runs and make it 8-2. Harrigan then singled to centerfield, scoring Shepherd and Tejada to give Miami a 10-2 lead.
The Racers hit a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth to complete the scoring.
Harrigan finished 1-for-3 with three RBIs and one run scored. Winkler was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Senior Jack Corbell picked up the win for the RedHawks. He pitched 6.1 innings allowing only one earned run on six hits. He struck out six.
Miami opens the home season this weekend as it welcomes Oakland to McKie Field at Hayden Park for a three-game series. Friday's game is scheduled for 5 p.m. Saturday's contest is at 4 p.m. and Sunday's game will begin at 1 p.m.
