YPSILANTI, Mich. - The Miami University men's basketball team begins the month of February on the road as it travels to Eastern Michigan Saturday. Tip time is at noon and it airs live on ESPN+. An audio broadcast of the game will be available on the RedHawk IMG Sports Network Tunein App.
FEBRUARY ON THE ROAD: Miami has seven games during the month of February, and will have to be road warriors during that time as five of them will be away from Millett Hall. That includes both beginning and ending the month on two-game road trips. After dropping their first two MAC road games against Buffalo and Toledo, the RedHawks earned a 71-65 victory at Ball State in their last road game on Jan. 22. Sophomore guard Nike Sibande has been the star in Miami's MAC road games, averaging 18.3 points per game, compared to his 15.6 points per game in MAC home contests.
BOWMAN HEATING UP: Junior forward Bam Bowman tied a career-high with five 3-point makes against Toledo on Tuesday. He finished with 17 points, the third time in the past four games he has scored in double figures. Bowman is third on the RedHawks averaging 9.7 points per game. He is averaging 10.1 points per contest in MAC games.
ABOUT EASTERN MICHIGAN: The Eagles are 9-12 overall and 3-5 in the MAC. They have dropped four of their past five games, including an 86-82 decision at Central Michigan in their last action on Tuesday. Eastern Michigan is known for playing a matchup zone very similar to the one that Syracuse has run for years. Three players average in double figures for the Eagles, led by redshirt senior forward Elijah Minnie at 14.3 points per game. Senior center James Thompson IV averages a double-double with 11.0 points and 10.5 rebounds per contest.
THE SERIES WITH EAGLES: The RedHawks hold a 49-27 lead in the all-time series with the Eagles, however EMU has won the last six contests. That includes both meetings last season. On Jan. 27, 2018 in Oxford, the Eagles used their zone defense to stymie Miami in a 58-48 victory. Dalonte Brown led the 'Hawks with 17 points. The teams met 17 days in later in Ypsilanti on Feb. 13, 2018. Once again Miami struggled against the Eastern Michigan zone as it fell behind by 17 points, but the Red and White rallied in the second half. However, the comeback fell one-point short as the Eagles took a 58-57 win. Jake Wright led the RedHawks with 21 points on seven 3-point baskets.
UP AHEAD: The RedHawks remain on the road as they make the trip to Kent State on Tuesday. Tip time is at 7 p.m. and it will air live on ESPN+. An audio broadcast of the game will be available on the RedHawk IMG Sports Network Tunein App.
