2/2/2019 2:20:00 PM | Men's Basketball
Miami shot only 33.3 percent (18-for-54) from the field, but countered by holding EMU to 17-for-49 (34.7 percent). The RedHawks held a 39-35 advantage on the boards and were able to secure the victory from the free throw line, hitting 20-for-25 (80.0 percent). By comparison the Eagles went 11-for-20 (55.0 percent) from the charity stripe.
Despite a slow start offensively for both teams, buckets from sophomore forward Dalonte Brown and junior forward Bam Bowman gave Miami a 4-0 lead. The RedHawks held the Eagles off the board until a free throw at the 17:19 mark. EMU did not score its first field goal until 4:40 into the game.

A three-pointer by sophomore guard Nike Sibande and a jumper by sophomore guard Jalen Adaway got Miami's offense going. Senior guard Darrian Ringo stole the ball and drove it in for the easy layup to make it 11-5 with 11:18 to go. Eastern Michigan was able to pull within two, but six points from Adaway helped spark an 8-1 run that gave the Red and White a 19-10 lead at the 6:56 mark. Defense continued to be the name of the game as Miami only allowed the Eagles seven more points the rest of the half to take a 25-17 lead into the break.

Baskets by Brown and redshirt senior guard Abdoulaye Harouna helped the RedHawks maintain a 29-21 advantage with 17:37 to go. Miami followed by going scoreless for the next 5:58. Despite that, Eastern Michigan could manage only three points during that stretch. A pair of free throws by Brown at the 11:39 mark ended the drought and gave the 'Hawks a 31-24 lead.

A three-pointer by Harouna extended the advantage to 10 with 10:21 to go. Each time EMU was able to hit a basket to get the lead under double-digits, Miami would counter with a big basket. Leading 38-30, Brown and freshman guard Mekhi Lairy each hit a pair of free throws, while a triple from Brown gave the RedHawks their largest lead at 45-32 at the 5:35 mark. The Eagles were able to get as close as seven down the stretch, but Miami salted the game away at the free throw line.
