Men's Basketball
Last Week: Miami (15-16 overall, 8-10 MAC) dropped a pair of heartbreakers to conclude the regular season. A crazy back-and-forth contest saw the RedHawks go to overtime for the second consecutive game. Unfortunately an early run in the extra session allowed Kent State to escape with a 90-83 victory on Tuesday (Recap) Miami dropped a 75-66 decision on Friday night to the Ohio Bobcats in the annual Battle of the Bricks. (Recap) This Week: The RedHawks are the seventh seed in the MAC Tournament and will host 10th seed Ohio Monday night in a first round game at 7 p.m. The remainder of the week will depend on Miami's success. With a victory Monday, the 'Hawks will advance to the quarterfinals in Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland on Thursday against second seed Toledo at 6:30 p.m. A win there will mean a trip to the MAC semifinals on Friday at 9 p.m. If Miami can advance to the MAC Championship, it will take place Saturday at 7 p.m.
Women's Basketball
Last Week: The RedHawks (20-9, 12-6 MAC) closed the regular season with a pair of victories last week. Miami has won 10 of its last 11 outings heading into the postseason. The Red & White began last week on the road at Ohio, topping the rival Bobcats, 78-56, behind 21-point performances from both Lauren Dickerson and Kendall McCoy. The win locked up the No. 4 seed in the upcoming MAC Tournament, giving Miami a first-round bye straight to Cleveland for the quarterfinals (Recap). The RedHawks reached the 20-win mark Saturday at home on Senior Day, beating Kent State, 58-35. Senior Kayla Brown led the way with 11 points while junior Leah Purvis posted 10 (Recap). This Week: Miami begins its run in the MAC Tournament on Wednesday against the winner of the No. 5 Ohio and No. 12 Akron game, which takes place Monday evening. Hockey
Last Week: The RedHawks (11-18-5, 6-14-4-2 NCHC) finished up their regular season with a trip to No. 4/5 Denver over the weekend. MU fell behind 3-0 early in the second period and trailed 4-1 after two periods in Friday's opener. Goals by Conor Lemirande and Casey Gilling drew the Red & White within 4-3 with under four minutes left, but the Pioneers got an insurance tally and an empty netter to deal them a 6-3 loss (Recap). On Saturday, Miami once again fell behind 3-0, this time before the game was five minutes old. The RedHawks again rallied as a Gordie Green goal late in the first got them on the board and Karch Bachman netted two goals in the second, his first career multi-goal game, to leave it all tied up after 40 minutes. Ryan Larkin stopped 16 third period shots to leave the score tied and a five-minute overtime didn't decide a winner. In the 3-on-3 session, Phil Knies found the net to hand Miami two points in the conference standings (Recap). This Week: Miami begins postseason play in the NCHC Playoffs at top seeded St. Cloud State. The best-of-three series begins on Friday at 8:37 p.m. ET.
Baseball
Last Week: Miami (8-3) extended its win streak to six games with a sweep over Rider at home this past weekend. The RedHawks opened the series Friday with a 5-1 triumph after jumping out to an early lead (Recap). Saturday's matchup was scoreless going into the ninth inning and Rider took its first and only lead of the series with an RBI single in the top half. Miami answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning on a two-run walk-off double by Hayden Senger (Recap). Sunday saw the RedHawks blank the Broncs, 6-0, behind a five-run fourth inning and yet another dominant series of outings on the mound. Miami starting pitching combined to allow no runs, just seven hits and a opponent batting average of .120. The bullpen surrendered just two runs all weekend (Recap). This Week: The RedHawks begin midweek play when they face Dayton on the road on Wednesday at 3 p.m. Miami then comes home to host Northern Kentucky on Friday and Saturday at 5 p.m. and 4 p.m., respectively. The series finale will be played at NKU on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Golf
Last Week: Miami finished eighth at the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate in Scottsdale, Arizona over the weekend. Senior Patrick Flavin and redshirt junior Brian Ohr tied for to individual finisher in a tie for 27th. (Saturday Recap) (Sunday Recap) This Week: The RedHawks are idle this week. They return to action March 12-13 when they travel to Bluffton, South Carolina for the Colleton River Collegiate.
Swimming and Diving
Last Week: The men finished third in the 2018 MAC Championships in Oxford with 740 points. Thomas Blackstone (Hutch) and Kayky Mota were named All-MAC First Team. Justin Andrews, James McGuire, Harrison Moncino, Iago Moussalem, Gordon Wheeler and Diego Gonzalez Valentim were named All-MAC Second Team. Blackstone is the MAC Champion in the 200 breast (1:55.24). Softball
Last Week: The RedHawks (6-7) played at the Red & Black Classic at Louisville. On Saturday, Miami shutout UAB 4-0 and fell to Louisville 2-0. Shannon Hohman pitched the complete-game shutout against UAB. (Recap). On Sunday, the RedHawks won against Maryland 2-1 and IUPUI 6-3. Courtney Vierstra pitched a complete game against Maryland (Recap). Next Week: Miami travels to Maryland for a tournament Thursday through Saturday. The RedHawks face Utah, Yale, Maryland and Jacksonville.
