RedHawks Drop Offensive Shootout to Campbell in CBI, 97-87

BUIES CREEK, N.C. --The Miami University men's basketball team got into an offensive shootout with Campbell Wednesday night in the first round of the College Basketball Invitational, but ultimately the Camels came away with a 97-87 victory. The RedHawks conclude the season at 16-18, while Campbell improves to 17-15 and advances to the quarterfinals of the CBI.
Miami had one of its best offensive performances of the season, hitting 33-for-60 (55.0 percent) from the field. That included an impressive 13-for-26 (50.0 percent) performance from behind the arc. The Camels however were even hotter, finishing 33-for-53 (62.3 percent) overall and 16-for-30 (53.3 percent) from three-point range. Chris Clemons, the fourth-leading scorer in the country, finished with 32 points, the highest amount scored against the RedHawks this season.
Offensively, freshman guard Nike Sibande nearly matched Clemons shot-for-shot. He was 11-for-17 from the field, including 7-for-10 from three-point range for a career-high 29 points. His seven makes from behind the arc tie for the eighth-most in a single game in Miami history.
In his final contest, senior forward Logan McLane provide a strong low post presence to help make up for an early injury to freshman forward Dalonte Brown. McLane finished with 19 points on 8-for-11 shooting in 29 minutes of action.
The scoring came early from both teams, but two three-pointers from Sibande and layups from McLane and senior forward Rod Mills Jr. put the RedHawks on top 10-7.The lead changed hands two more times before a triple from freshman guard Isaiah Coleman-Lands made it 13-12. Campbell answered with a 13-4 run to build a 25-17 lead with 10:00 remaining in the first half.

A pair of three-pointers from redshirt junior guard Jake Wright and a layup from McLane held Miami pull within two at 27-25 at the 7:27 mark. Clemons hit a pair of shots to push the advantage back to six, but an old-fashioned three-point play from Mills and a dunk by Sibande cut the deficit to one at 39-38. Clemons hit another jumper before back-to-back three-pointers by Sibande and Coleman-Lands put the `Hawks on top, 44-41. A Camel triple tied it, but Sibande beat the buzzer with one of his own to send Miami into the break leading 47-44.

The RedHawks shot 58.6 percent (17-for-29) for the first half, including an impressive 9-for-15 (60.0 percent) from three-point range. Sibande had 17 points in the period.
After Campbell opened the second half with a jumper, an old-fashioned three-point play from Mills followed by a three-pointer from McLane gave Miami its largest lead at 53-46 with 18:51 to go. The Camels responded with an 11-0 run to build a 15:27 advantage before a dunk from freshman guard Jalen Adaway got the RedHawks offense moving again.

Coleman-Lands hit a three-pointer to pull Miami within one at 59-58, but Campbell again heated up from behind the arc, going on a 13-2 run to take a 72-60 lead with 11:39 to go. The RedHawks did not give up as McLane hit a pair of shots, while Sibande had a three-pointer and a dunk to make it 74-69 at the 9:08 mark.

After a dunk from Clemons, a three-pointer from Sibande and a layup by Wright cut the deficit to two at 76-74. The Camels hit a layup, but a layup from McLane made it 78-76 with 6:44 to go. At that point Miami's offense finally went cold, only scoring two points over the next four minutes. Campbell took advantage with a 13-2 run that essentially put the game away. Sibande and Adaway each had layups, but the Camels hit their free throws down the stretch to finish off the 97-87 win.
Coleman-Lands finished with 10 points for the RedHawks, while Mills and Wright each had eight. Junior point guard Darrian Ringo had seven assists in the game and finished with 236 on the season, the most in Miami history and fourth-most all-time in the MAC.
