OXFORD, Ohio - The Miami University volleyball team looks to get back on the winning track as it enters the final weekend of the regular season on the road. It begins with a trip to Kent State on Friday for a 6 p.m. match. The Golden Flashes will have a webcast of the match on www.kentstatesports.com. On Saturday, the RedHawks head to Ohio for the second "Battle of the Bricks" match of the season. First serve is at 6 p.m. and it will air live on ESPN3.
MIAMI SCENARIOS: Miami remains tied with Bowling Green for the Mid-American Conference lead with an 11-3 record, and will secure at least a share of the MAC regular season title and a top-2 seed in the upcoming MAC Tournament with a pair of victories this weekend. Ball State is right behind both teams with a 10-4 conference record. The Falcons hold the tiebreaker over the RedHawks due to head-to-head victories. Miami has the tiebreaker over Ball State for same reason. Similarly, the Cardinals beat Bowling Green and they would have the tiebreaker over them if it became necessary.
MAC TOURNAMENT NEXT WEEK IN OXFORD: Miami will be hosting the MAC Tournament next week, Nov. 15-18 in Oxford. The top eight teams have already clinched their spots and are playing for seeds this weekend. In addition to the aforementioned Miami, Ball State, Bowling Green situation, a big battle is brewing for the fourth seed and the final bye to the quarterfinal round. Buffalo, Eastern Michigan and Northern Illinois are all tied for fourth at 8-6. Ohio is lurking right behind them in seventh place at 7-7. Kent State is the final qualifier at 6-8. It holds a two-match lead and the head-to-head tiebreaker over 4-10 Toledo, Western Michigan and Central Michigan.
ABOUT KENT STATE: The Golden Flashes are 13-15 overall and 6-8 in the Mid-American Conference. After dropping a 0-3 decision at Buffalo last Friday, they clinched a spot in the upcoming MAC Tournament with a 3-2 victory over Akron on Saturday. They have seen significant improvement since finishing 3-13 in the MAC regular season race a year ago. Kent State is led by freshman middle blocker Danie Tyson. She has 220 kills, an average of 2.20 kills per set.
SERIES WITH GOLDEN FLASHES: Miami holds a 63-18 lead in the all-time series with Kent State. The RedHawks have won three straight against the Golden Flashes, including a 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-21) victory on Oct. 6 in Oxford. Miami's offense had an attack percentage of .290 in the win. ABOUT OHIO: The Bobcats are 12-15 overall and 7-7 in the MAC. They began last week with a 3-1 victory at Akron on Friday, but were swept at Buffalo on Saturday. The loss to the Bulls snapped a three-match winning streak. Prior to facing Miami on Saturday, Ohio will host Bowling Green on Friday. The Bobcats are led by redshirt senior outside hitter Jamie Kosiorek. She has 296 kills, an average of 2.90 kills per set.
SERIES WITH BOBCATS: Miami holds a 50-35 lead in the all-time series with Ohio. The RedHawks have won six of the past seven meetings with the Bobcats, including a dramatic 3-2 (25-22, 21-25, 25-19, 18-25, 15-9) win on Oct. 5 in Oxford. Freshman outside hitter
