OXFORD, Ohio - The Miami University men's basketball team returns home on Saturday as it welcomes Wilberforce to Millett Hall. Tip time is 2 p.m. and it will air live on ESPN3.
HAROUNA IS BACK: Redshirt senior Abdoulaye Harouna had his best performance since missing last season due to visa complications against Xavier on Wednesday. He was 4-for-11 from the field, scoring 14 points. Harouna also brought in four rebounds and had an assist in 18 minutes of action. So far this season he is averaging 5.4 points per game.
REBOUND SUCCESS: One positive from the game against Xavier is the RedHawks outrebounded the Musketeers, 41-34. That included grabbing 17 offensive caroms against a team that had previously been outrebounding opponents by an average of 7.2 per game. Since losing the rebounding battle, 38-22, in its season opener, Miami has outboarded each of its next six opponents by at least seven per game. The RedHawks rank 61st in the nation with a +6.1 rebounding margin. Sophomore forward Dalonte Brown leads MU with an average of 6.9 caroms per game.
ABOUT WILBERFORCE: Wilberforce is a university of important historical significance as it was the first private HBCU in the country. It opened in 1856 and was the first school to be owned and operated by African-Americans. The Bulldogs compete in NAIA Division II and are an independent. They are 3-6 on the season, having dropped their last five in a row. This will be the third MAC school they play this year, each of those games, including this one are counted as exhibitions for Wilberforce. The Bulldogs fell to Ohio, 97-61, on Nov. 7 and Toledo, 99-58, on Nov. 10. They are led by sophomore forward Jabril Hunter, who averages 12.8 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.
THE SERIES WITH WILBERFORCE: This is the first ever meeting between Miami and Wilberforce.
