Volleyball Hosts Ohio and Kent State

Friday is Cancer Support, Saturday is Alumnae Weekend

OXFORD, Ohio - Miami hosts a pair of its longtime rivals at home this weekend. On Friday it is the first "Battle of the Bricks" of the season as the RedHawks welcome Ohio to Millett Hall for a 7 p.m. match. That contest will air live on ESPN+. On Saturday, Miami hosts Kent State at 5 p.m. That match will be streamed on RedHawks All-Access for those who have a subscription.

FRIDAY PROMOTIONS: Fans can receive free admission by showing that they purchased a ticket to one of the hockey games against Alabama Huntsville. It is the RedHawks' cancer support game and the team will be giving away purple ribbons, as well as accepting donations for Luna Cares wellness baskets. For more information click HERE.

SATURDAY REUNIONS: On Saturday, the Miami volleyball team will be celebrating anniversaries for two of its more successful eras. The 2007 and 2008 teams that won a MAC Tournament Championship and earned two NCAA bids will be holding their 10th anniversary reunion. The 1995-98 teams that won four straight MAC Championships, made four NCAA Tournament appearances and in 1998 earned the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament victory will be holding their 20th anniversary reunion. All six teams will be recognized in a ceremony postgame.

OPPONENT PREVIEWS
ABOUT OHIO: The Bobcats are 8-9 overall and 3-1 in the MAC. They entered the season as the preseason pick to win both the regular season and MAC Tournaments. Last week they dropped a five-set heartbreaker to Buffalo on Friday. They rebounded with a 3-0 win over Akron on Saturday. Ohio is led by redshirt senior outside hitter Jaime Kosiorek. She has 177 kills, an average of 2.77 per set. The Bobcats average over two blocks per set as well. They are led there by redshirt junior middle hitter Simone Miller, who averages 1.35 blocks per set.

SERIES WITH BOBCATS: Miami holds a 49-35 lead in the all-time series with Ohio. The RedHawks have won five of the past six against the Bobcats, including two of their three meetings last season. On Sept. 29, 2017 in Athens, the teams went back-and-forth but Miami dropped a 2-3 (25-21, 22-25, 16-25, 25-17, 13-15) decision. Katie Tomasic led the 'Hawks with 15 kills and four blocks. On Nov. 4, 2017 in Oxford, Miami rebounded strongly as it dominated in a 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-13) win. Olivia Rusek led the way with nine kills. The teams met again two weeks later on Nov. 18, 2017 in Oxford for the MAC Tournament Semifinals. While each set was competitive, the RedHawks once again earned a 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-23) victory. Rusek led Miami with nine kills and 12 digs in that match.

ABOUT KENT STATE: The Golden Flashes are 8-10 overall and 1-3 in the MAC. Coming off a 5-22 season, they have already exceeded their 2017 win total. They beat Akron in five sets on Friday, but dropped a five-set decision to Buffalo on Saturday. Kent State is led by freshman outside hitter Kathryn Ellison. She has 166 kills, an average of 2.63 per set.

SERIES WITH GOLDEN FLASHES: Miami holds a 62-18 lead in the all-time series with Kent State. The RedHawks won both meetings with the Golden Flashes last season. On Sept. 30, 2017 in Kent, Miami won a hard-fought 3-2 (25-19, 21-25, 32-30, 21-25, 15-6) battle. Meredith Stutz recorded 13 blocks in the victory, including a school record six solo blocks. On Nov. 3, 2017, the RedHawks earned a 3-0 (26-24, 25-23, 25-16) victory. Olivia Rusek had a double-double of 17 kills and 15 digs in the win.
