Football
Last Week: Three fourth quarter turnovers by the defense energized the Miami football team and allowed it to pull away with a 31-10 victory over Austin Peay on Saturday afternoon. The RedHawks' (1-1) big plays allowed them to hold the ball for 12:06 in the fourth quarter to allow them to even their record on the season. (RECAP) This Week: Miami Hosts Cincinnati in the Battle for the Victory Bell on Saturday, Sept. 16 at 8 p.m.
Volleyball
Last Week: Miami (7-4) went down south and won the Carolina Classic as part of a 3-1 week. Senior right side hitter Katie Tomasic was named Tournament MVP and she was joined on the All-Tournament Team by redshirt junior Mackenzie Zielinski and sophomore middle hitter Margaret Payne. It started at home when down two sets, the RedHawks made an inspired comeback but ultimately dropped a 2-3 (23-25, 20-25, 25-22, 25-20, 8-15) decision to Dayton Tuesday evening. (RECAP) Miami got off to a dominating start at the Carolina Classic with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-15, 25-16) win over Radford Friday morning. (RECAP) For the third time in two seasons, Miami knocked off a team from the Southeastern Conference as it came from behind to defeat South Carolina (21-25, 25-20, 15-25, 25-22, 15-11) Friday evening. (RECAP) It was a grind throughout, but the RedHawks came from two sets down to defeat Eastern Kentucky 3-2 (20-25, 19-25, 26-24, 25-16, 15-10) and complete an undefeated weekend at the Carolina Classic on Saturday (RECAP). This Week: Miami returns to action this weekend when it competes in the Stacey Clark Classic. On Friday, the RedHawks will take on the host, 17th-ranked Purdue at 7 p.m. On Saturday, Miami takes on Loyola (Chi.) at 3 p.m.
Golf
Last Week: Miami had a very successful start to the 2017-18 season with a second place finish at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate. Individually, senior Patrick Flavin won his fifth career collegiate event at two-under par, while redshirt junior Brian Ohr was the runner-up at one-under par. (Friday Recap) (Saturday Recap) (Sunday Recap) This Week: The RedHawks are idle this week. They return to action at the Inverness Intercollegiate, Sept. 18-19.
Soccer
Last Week: Miami (0-6) began a four-match road stretch with a trip to Evansville on Friday night. While the RedHawks created several scoring opportunities, the offense remained snakebit and a late Purple Aces goal sent them to a 1-0 setback (RECAP). This Week: The Red & White wrap up non-conference play with a road match at Illinois State on Sunday afternoon.
Field Hockey
Last Week: Miami (2-4) wrapped up the Miami Invitational with a contest against No. 16 Boston on Monday. The RedHawks fell 3-1, despite leading the game in shots (RECAP). On Friday, Miami hosted Ohio State and fell 3-2. The RedHawks scored with less than three minutes left in the game and pulled Maddie Passarella in an attempt to tie the game, but could not cash in (RECAP). On Sunday, Miami traveled to Indiana where the team battled in an evenly-matched contest that required overtime. The RedHawks ultimately lost in overtime, 3-2 (RECAP). This Week: Miami begins conference play on the road with a Friday contest at Ohio and a Sunday game at Appalachian State.
