Golf
Last Week: Miami finished fourth at the MAC Championship. Junior Patrick Flavin took runner-up honors individually at six-under par. Flavin was named First-Team All-MAC and to the All-Tournament Team, while redshirt sophomore Brian Ohr was named Second-Team All-MAC. Senior Greg Conrad took home the prestigious Earl Yestingsmeier Sportsmanship award. (Friday Recap)(Saturday Recap)(Sunday Recap) This Week: The team season is complete. Flavin will see if he earns an at-large individual selection to the NCAA Regionals this Thursday at noon when the selection show airs on the Golf Channel.
Baseball
Last Week: The RedHawks (19-26, 5-10 MAC) went 3-1 on the week, which started with a shutout over the top-scoring team in the country as they defeated Morehead State, 8-0, on Tuesday (RECAP). The team then headed to Bowling Green for the weekend. Miami opened the series with a doubleheader sweep on Friday, totaling six home runs between the two games to power past the Falcons in 10-4 and 9-6 decisions (RECAP). After a day off on Saturday due to inclement weather, Bowling Green was able to salvage a victory in the series finale on Sunday, topping the Red & White by a 3-1 score (RECAP). This Week: Miami kicks off its week at Louisville on Tuesday at 6 p.m. before returning home Wednesday to play host to Butler, also at 6 p.m. The 'Hawks remain at McKie Field for the weekend to host Buffalo in an important divisional series.
Tennis:
Last Week: The RedHawks played in the Mid-American Conference Championships in Muncie, Ind. A strong performance over the course of three days sent the 'Hawks to the final round of the championships. On Friday, Miami took on Northern Illinois University to kick off the tournament. The Red & White fell in doubles, tallying losses at first and second positions. Miami rattled off four-unanswered points to take the win, with the winning point coming from Anastasiia Vasiukhina (RECAP). The RedHawks advanced to the semi-finals to unseat top-seed Ball State, 4-2, for their second-straight win. Miami used strong singles play to overcome a slow start on the doubles court as it avenged a 4-3 home loss to Ball State two week prior. The 'Hawks rallied in singles play to notch wins within its depths to tie it up. Anzhelika Shapovalova clinched the match after downing Petyon Gollhofer in straight sets (6-2, 7-6 (7-1)) to earn a spot in the championship (RECAP). Miami returned on Sunday to take on No. 3 Buffalo in the championship round. This time, the RedHawks were unable to overcome their slow start in doubles. After missing the doubles, the Bulls pulled ahead with a win at No. 3. Miami was able to tally two points and stay in the game with two matches entering their third sets. It came down to court 1, where Nelli Ponomareva ultimate fell (6-2, 7-6 (4-7), 6-3). Hannah Shteyn and Shapovalova were named to the he All-MAC Tournament team. This is the first time Shapovalova has received the honor and the second time Shteyn has been named in her career (RECAP).
Softball
Last Week: In its final road trip of the season, Miami (27-21 overall, 12-9 MAC) struggled as it only posted one victory for the week. On Tuesday, the Red and White concluded non-conference play with a doubleheader split at Wright State. In the first matchup, senior catcher Lauren Anderson's three RBIs helped build a 4-1 Miami lead, but a four-run rally in the bottom of the sixth propelled the Raiders to a comeback 5-4 victory. The RedHawks rebounded in the nightcap by way of three RBIs from junior third baseman Kat Lee and a complete game effort from senior righthander Carly Mortensen. Lee's two-run double in the fifth and solo home run in the seventh clinched a 7-1 Miami victory. (RECAP) In Friday's opener at Ohio, the RedHawks' offense was stifled by Bobcat pitching, tallying only one hit in a 9-1 six-inning loss. The RedHawks scored their lone run when senior outfielder Jenna Jones scored from first on a throwing error. The bats awakened in the second game with homers from Lee, junior outfielder Kaitlyn Gliha and sophomore first baseman Johniann Wahl, but the Ohio attack helped them take the game, 10-4. (RECAP) In Saturday's series finale, Ohio's pitching held the RedHawks check, allowing only one hit after a leadoff triple by sophomore shortstop Michaela Schlattman. After Jones and Gliha scored on an error in the top of the fifth to narrow the margin to 4-2, the Bobcats rebounded with six in the bottom half to seal a 10-2 run-rule win. (RECAP) This Week: With the sweep, Miami fell into a tie for second place in the MAC East with Kent State, two games back of first-place Ohio. The RedHawks will return home for the regular season finale this weekend against Akron. The three-game set begins Friday at 3 p.m., followed by a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m. Five RedHawk seniors will be recognized prior to Saturday's game in a Senior Day ceremony.
