FINDLAY, Ohio - Nine RedHawks earned first-place finishes Friday evening as the Miami University track and field team dominated the Findlay Meet for Everyone. Seven of the nine were from the women's team that is set to take on the Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships on February 24-25.
Right out the gate, sophomore Arissa Freeman (7.68) and junior Briah Owens (7.81) grabbed first and second, respectively, in the 60m dash. Owens got the best of Freeman in the 200m, though, when she ran a 26.59 to take second while Freeman grabbed third with a 26.63.
Full results from the evenings action can be found here.
Junior Emily Hooker grabbed first place for the first time this indoor season when she recorded a 57.06 in the 400m. Fellow junior Lauren Hoover did the same in the 800m, winning it with a time of 2:18.21.
The long distance side did not disappoint, either. The 3000m saw the top four places all painted Red and White. Sophomore Maria Weisgerber took first with a 10:17.57. She was immediately followed by junior junior Sarah Starrett (10:25.65), freshman Maegan Murphy (10:29.30), and sophomore Haley Sandvik (10:34.52).
Freshman Grace Dima tasted victory for the first time in her young college career, taking the pole vault with an 11-1.75. Sophomore Lauren Boyd placed second with a 10-8. Sophomore Katie Walter added to the field team's performance with a first-place toss of 46-9 to win the shot put.
With his first career victory in last week's GVSU Big Meet, freshman Jerimiah Hunter took the 60m honors yet again, this time with a personal-best 6.79. He did not stop there, though, as he also placed first in the 200m with a time of 22.11. In the one mile, freshman Seth Conroy (4:20.48), Jordan Knapp (4:26.70), and freshman Daniel Santino (4:32.26) took second, third, and fourth, respectively.
While the rest of the 'Hawks begin preparations for next week's MAC Indoor Championships, a handful of Miami's men's team will compete at the Alex Wilson Invitational on Saturday in order to ready themselves for the upcoming outdoor season. A recap of that will be available following the conclusion of the event.
