Emerson, Howard Named Miami Athletes of the Week

For their performances last week, Avery Emerson and Matthew Howard are Miami's Athletes of the Week, presented by Skyline Chili for the week of May 4.

Female Winner: Avery Emerson
Avery Emerson, the senior RedHawk, secured a third-place finish in the 800m dash at the Jessie Owens Classic. Her run of 2:07.13 is ranked second in the MAC, 0.07 seconds behind first. This run is third all-time in Miami's program history. She also contributed to the RedHawks 4x400 relay, where the team took third place. Emerson is from Cincinnati, Ohio, she is studying Marketing in the Farmer School of Business.

Male Winner: Matthew Howard
Matthew Howard won the javelin throw with a mark of 63.58m at the Jessie Owens Classic. This mark leads the MAC and is 99th in D1 NCAA this season. This mark is also the third-best for a RedHawk ever. A senior thrower from Dublin, Ohio, he is majoring in Finance/Business Analytics in the Farmer School of Business.
