OXFORD, Ohio - Following finals week, the Miami men's basketball team aced its non-conference tilt with Rio Grande, prevailing 109-70 at Millett Hall on Sunday afternoon.
Miami (7-4) never trailed and led by double digits for 32:17 in the victory.
The RedHawks jumped out to an early 8-2 lead, making four of their first five baskets. That spurt was capped by a transition finish by Nike Sibande with just 2:02 gone by.

The RedStorm drew to within four on a couple occasions, but Darrian Ringo came off the bench and helped push that lead to double figures. Leading 18-10, Ringo jumped in front of a pass to pick one off and set up a Sibande layup the other way. After a stop, Ringo then broke down the defense and hit a jumper in the lane to balloon the lead to 22-10 with 11:47 to play in the half.

Sibande continued to get open on the break and his emphatic duck with midway through the first made it 27-12. The lead great to 23 points at 36-13 with 5:33 to go until the break. The RedHawks shot a blistering 60.5 percent in the first half and a late three-pointer by Jake Wright capped the onslaught and gave them their largest lead of the frame, 54-25, which they took into the locker room.
A Sibande layup made it 56-25 just 21 seconds into the second half, Miami's largest of the game to that point. A couple three-pointers by Jackson Burgess cut MU's lead to 24, but Ringo got to the hoop for an old-fashioned three-point play and on the ensuing possession dished down low to Bam Bowman to bump the lead back to 30. Bowman later made it 70-39 with 12:21 left as Ringo again found him cutting to the hoop and he converted the transition bucket and hit the ensuing free throw on the foul.

A three-pointer by Isaiah Coleman-Lands bumped MU's lead to a game-high 33 (75-42) with 11:27 left. That trifecta began opening things up from perimeter for the Red & White as Wright and Coleman-Lands connected from long range on consecutive possessions to make it a 37-point lead at 85-48 with 8:52 to play. The RedStorm never got any closer than 31 points the rest of the way while the RedHawks' lead got as large as 39, their final victory margin.
Sibande (21 points) and Bowman (20 points) both cleared 20 points with Bowman hauling in 10 rebounds for a double-double. Ringo (12 points), Jalen Adaway (11 points) and Wright (10 points) also scored in double figures. Miami shot 62.1 percent from the field while holding Rio Grande to 36.4 percent shooting. The RedHawks dominated inside, outscoring the RedStorm 64-24 in the paint and finishing with a 46-28 advantage in rebounding. MU caught fire from distance in the second half, making 6-of-11 threes to finish 8-for-21 (38.1 percent) from beyond the arc overall on the afternoon. Miami had 22 assists on its 41 baskets, with Ringo dishing out six dimes.
Miami returns to the court on Thursday when it heads to DePaul. Opening tip is at 9 p.m. ET.
