CINCINNATI -- The Miami University volleyball team extended its winning streak to six matches as it took down rival Cincinnati 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 27-25) on Wednesday evening. The RedHawks improve to 7-4 on the season, while the Bearcats fall to 4-6.

We are happy to get out in three tonight," said head coach Carolyn Condit. "Although I felt we could have played a little better tonight, we really came through when it counted and that has kind of been the trademark of this team."

Another balanced Miami attack was led by sophomore outside hitter Stela Kukoc, who finished with 10 kills. Junior middle hitter Meredith Stutz had eight kills and zero attack errors in 15 attempts for a team-leading .533 attack percentage.

Kills from senior middle hitter Paige Hill, junior right side hitter Katie Tomasic and Kukoc helped Miami jump to an 8-1 lead to begin set one. UC was able to close to within three at 13-16 before the RedHawks began their closing run. Kills from Hill and Stutz started a 7-1 run that put Miami in control at 23-14. That proved to be more than enough as a kill from Stutz and a Cincinnati attack error finished off a 25-18 win.

The Bearcats opened up a 7-4 lead to begin set two. Two kills from Stutz, along with kills from senior outside hitter Maris Below and junior outside hitter Olivia Rusek put Miami in front at 8-7. After UC scored next, a 7-1 run made it 15-9 in favor of the `Hawks. The Bearcats pulled to within three at 17-20, but a kill from Stutz off an assist from senior setter Krista Brakauskas and back-to-back kills by Tomasic were a big part of putting the set away. Another kill by Tomasic completed the 25-21 victory.

Kills from Below and Stutz off assists from sophomore setter Mackenzie Zielinski got the RedHawks off to another strong start in set three. After two more kills from Stutz, Miami held an 8-6 advantage. The Bearcats answered to take the lead at 11-10, but two more kills from Kukoc put the Red and White back ahead. The teams traded the advantage until a kill from UC gave it a 21-20 lead and forced a Miami timeout. After four straight side outs, the Bearcats were in front, 23-22. Next a Cincinnati kill gave it set point. The RedHawks showed a lot of heart, fighting it off with back-to-back kills by Below and Tomasic to tie the score at 24. The Bearcats scored next, but once again a kill from Tomasic retied the score. Below and Tomasic then finished off a 27-25 win with back-to-back kills to give Miami the 3-0 victory.

Tomasic and Below each finished Wednesday's match with nine kills. Below just missed a double-double as she also had 14 digs. Zielinski led Miami with 19 assists, while Brakauskas had a double-double of 12 assists and 10 digs. Sophomore libero Maeve McDonald led the `Hawks with 17 digs.

Miami returns to action on Friday when it hosts Furman at 7 p.m. as part of homecoming weekend. That match will air live on ESPN3.
