OXFORD, Ohio -- Playing their third game in four days, the Miami University field hockey team competed well against 12th-ranked Louisville, but two second-half goals gave the Cardinals a 2-0 victory Monday afternoon. The RedHawks fall to 1-2 on the season, while Louisville improve to 2-0.

"I thought we competed very well," said head coach Inako Puzo. "We might have run out of legs a bit in the second half, but we need to be ready to play two full halves against top ranked teams. But overall I felt the team played with a lot of energy and played to win."

Miami controlled possession during the early portion of the game keeping the ball in Cardinal territory. Junior midfielder Mariona Heras had the Red and White's first good chance of the frame, but her shot was kicked away by the UL keeper. Senior forward Carla Romagosa had an attempt on a RedHawk penalty corner, but her shot was blocked.

Senior goalkeeper Alysa Xavier made two saves during the first half to help send the game into halftime scoreless.

Louisville broke the scoreless tie in the 40th minute when Minout Mink scored off a one-timer on a penalty corner shot. It stayed that way until the 58th minute when Lotta Kahlert took a pass into the center of the circle and shot it in to make it 2-0 and complete the scoring for the match.

Heras led the RedHawks with two shots, while Xavier finished the game with four saves.

Miami returns to action Friday when they head out to the East Coast for a game at UMass-Lowell at 4:30 p.m.
