OXFORD, Ohio – Miami defeated the Michigan State Spartans Sunday 3-1, extending this season's perfect home record. Miami improves to 5-2 with the win while Michigan State falls to 3-4 with the loss.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Justina Intzes scored her sixth goal of the season early in the first period to give Miami a 1-0 advantage. Bet Gifra earned the assist on the goal.
- Malena Sabez made it a 2-0 contest after capitalizing on a penalty corner late in the second period. Kylie Coughlin inserted the ball and Paula Navarro set up Sabez for the score.
- Miami's final goal came 10 minutes into the second half. Meg Canfield passed to Intzes, who scored her second goal of the game to make it 3-0.
- Michigan State scored on a penalty corner with three minutes of play remaining, but Miami's defense fended off the Spartans to secure a 3-1 victory.
MIAMI GAME NOTES:
- The RedHawks totaled 23 shots (17 on goal) and held the Spartans to six (two on goal).
- Miami generated seven penalty corners.
- Intzes went 2-for-7 with five shots on goal.
- Sabez went 1-for-3 with three shots on goal.
- Gifra had one assist and three shots on goal.
