KENT, Ohio – The RedHawks shut out Kent State Friday, prevailing by a score of 7-0. Freshman midfielder
Malena Sabez score three goals during the contest, improving to ten on the season. Miami improves to 6-2 with the win while Kent State falls to 1-7 with the loss.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Miami's first shot and first goal of the game came with 30 seconds left in the first period as Bet Gifra scored off an assist by Paula Navarro.
- After two unsuccessful penalty corners early in the second, Gifra set up Sabez for her eighth goal of the season to make it a 2-0 game.
- Justina Intzes scored her first goal of the game with 35 seconds remaining in the half to make it 3-0. Judit Garcia Gregori assisted.
- The lone score of the third period came from Intzes off an assist from Berta Mata with less than 20 seconds left.
- Virginia Olin notched her first goal of the season in the fourth period on an assist by Meg Canfield to make it 5-0.
- Miami's sixth goal was scored by Sabez on a penalty corner with three minutes left to play. Kylie Coughlin inserted the ball and Mata set up Sabez for the score.
- Sabez completed her hat trick with 10 seconds left in the match, scoring on another penalty corner. Once again, Coughlin and Mata both assisted on the goal.
MIAMI GAME NOTES:
- Miami generated 27 total shots (18 on goal) while holding Kent State to 3 (zero on goal).
- Miami generated 11 penalty corners while holding Kent State to zero.
- Sabez and Intes had five shots on goal apiece
- Mata had three assists and a shot.
