Day One Results
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Half of the Miami track and field program's eight representatives were in action on day one of the NCAA East Region Preliminary meet on Thursday.
Two of the four RedHawks in action finished in the top 30 at the regional meet, including one who set a personal best in their final collegiate race.
Kathie Wollney was the women's team's lone representative of the meet's opening day. The senior made her NCAA prelims debut in the first round of the 400m hurdles, where she shattered her personal best by finishing her lap in 58.99, nearly a second better than her 59.77 time she set at the Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships. That time ranked 26th in the field, two spots and .14 seconds shy of moving onto tomorrow's quarterfinal race. Wollney finishes her career with the second-fastest 400m hurdle time in school history.
After the 400m hurdles, Andrew Dusing kicked things off on the track for the men. He made his postseason debut in the 1500m, where he took 32nd with a time of 3:48.89. On the field side of things, Kenny Glenn took to the long jump runway and he cleared 23-1 1/4 on his second jump to finish 41st.
Miami's night ended with the men's 10,000m where senior Joe Stewart was gunning for a spot in nationals. Stewart came up a bit short, however, placing 26th with a time of 30:32.40. The Naperville, Ill., native will get another chance at making it to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 5000m on Saturday.
Due up for the RedHawks on Friday's second day of the meet is Alexus Jimson-Miller, who runs in the first round of the 100m hurdles at 5 p.m.
