Softball
Last Week: Miami (27-21, 12-7 MAC) dropped two out of three games to Akron over the weekend. The RedHawks came from behind in the sixth inning to tie their series opener against Akron on Friday, but ultimately dropped a 3-2 decision. (Recap) Miami split a doubleheader with Akron to conclude its weekend series on Saturday. The RedHawks took the opener, 4-1. In a back-and-forth nightcap, the Zips ended up with an 8-7 victory. (Recap) This Week: The RedHawks complete the regular season with a three-game series at Buffalo next weekend. The teams will play a single game on Friday beginning at 3 p.m. and a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
Golf
Last Week: Miami finished third in the MAC Championships with a score of 40-over par. Brian Ohr was the top individual finisher, tying for fifth at four-over par. (Thursday Recap) (Friday Recap) (Saturday Recap) This Week: The RedHawks' team season is complete. Sophomore Patrick Flavin has a shot to be picked for the NCAA Regionals as an individual. The selection show is Thursday at 9:30 a.m.
Track and Field
Last Week: The Red and White hosted the RedHawk Invitational Saturday, winning 15 events. Action started strong with Zach McBride picking up the win in the men's 5000m in 14:44.12. The Miami relays were dominant with the Red and Winning 3 of 4 and the men's 4x400m set a new season best of 3:18.07. Two from the RedHawk distance squad set massive 21 second personal bests with Sarrah Starrett taking second in the women's 5000m and Matt Bromley having his best 3000m Steeplechase earning second in 9:20.53. (Recap) This Week: Miami closes out the regular season with the Kentucky Relays.
Baseball
Last week: The RedHawks (21-22, 10-5 MAC) started their week on the road at No. 22 Kentucky. A quick start by the Wildcats helped them to slide past the RedHawks, 11-1. The game was called in the top of the eighth due to severe weather (Recap). Miami remained on the road as they went to battle with Kent State on the weekend. A rough first few innings proved to be too much of a hill to climb as the Red & White fell, 10-3, in the series opener (Recap). On Saturday, the RedHawks were able to even up the series with a 5-2 win, behind a few clutch pitching performances and multi-hit efforts from five batters (Recap). Sunday's series finale saw Miami holding a 3-2 lead until a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth put the Golden Flashes up for good as they held on to beat the RedHawks, 4-3 (Recap). This Week: The RedHawks get set to play four games at home this week, beginning with a Wednesday matchup against Morehead State. Miami will then host Western Michigan this weekend in a cross-division MAC series.
Women's Tennis
Last Week: On Wednesday, Miami (12-10, 7-1 MAC) received three MAC postseason honors. Sophomore Nelli Ponomareva was named to the First-Team All-MAC, while freshman Anzhelika Shapovalova was named to the Second-Team All-MAC. Additionally, senior Ana Rajkovic was awarded the Leann Grimes Davidge Sportsmanship Award for outstanding sportsmanship by a MAC senior player. (Release) Beginning Friday, Miami hosted the 2016 MAC Women's Tennis Championship, with the RedHawks taking the court for semifinal competition on Saturday. Their run in the tournament proved to be short, as No. 3 Western Michigan upset the RedHawks, 4-2, at the Riverside Athletic Club in Hamilton. (Recap) The Broncos took the opening doubles point with a comeback at No. 1, and used the momentum to secure a trip to the final and stop Miami's three-year title streak. Shapovalova pulled out a tough tiebreaker to win 7-6 (7), 6-4 at No. 3, while fellow rookie Emily Struble completed a 29-8 season with a 7-5, 6-2 fifth-flight victory. The tournament concluded with Ball State taking its first MAC title with a 4-0 victory over WMU Sunday afternoon at the Hepburn Courts. Sunday's final was the last event held at the facility as Miami moves to a new venue next fall. This Week: Miami's season is completed.
