COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - A quick start offensively for Tennessee Tech proved to be costly as Miami battled back but came up short, falling 10-6 Sunday afternoon. Despite the loss, Miami heads back to Oxford with their first series win of the season.

The Golden Eagles jumped out to an early lead, scoring in their opening at bat on a groundout that plated one. They extended their lead in the bottom of the second, this time for two runs. After a couple well-placed safety squeezes, TTU held a 3-0 edge through two innings of play.

Tennessee Tech exploded for five runs in the home half of the third, scoring on two two-run doubles and a one-run single.

Miami cut the TTU lead in half in the top of the fifth. Jake Romano led off the inning with his first hoe run of the season, a lining shot over the right center wall. After a Steve Sada walk and a Kyle Winkler single, Ross Haffey lined a sac fly to right, allowing Sada to score. Then, following Russo, Yack and Sedio all reaching safely, Dallas Hall cranked a double down the left field line. Russo and Yack scored on the play, making it 8-4 TTU through four and half. The Golden Eagles responded in their half of the frame, scoring twice on a single and another safety squeeze. After five, TTU held a 10-4 advantage.

To lead off the top of the eighth, Hayden Senger demolished a ball over the left field wall, his second home run of the season. That cut the TTU lead to 10-6 but that was as close as it would get.

Miami steps back onto the field this Tuesday as they travel to Dayton. After that, on Wednesday, the Red & White will play the back half of their home-and-home with Dayton, which will serve as their home opener.
