Softball
Last Week: Miami (14-11 overall) had a strong week, finishing 5-1. That included going a perfect 4-0 at the College of Charleston Invitational over the weekend. Miami split a doubleheader on the road against Butler on Tuesday. The RedHawks offense came alive in a 12-3 victory in the opener. The Bulldogs then used one big inning to earn a 5-4 win in the nightcap. (Recap) It was a good opening day at the College of Charleston Invitational as Miami swept its two games on Saturday. The RedHawks had their bats going with a 10-1 win over Connecticut in the morning. Miami then used a three-run bottom of the sixth inning to come from behind and defeat Central Connecticut State, 3-2. (Recap) Miami finished off a perfect weekend with a pair of victories on Sunday. The RedHawks knocked off Mid-American Conference rival Eastern Michigan in a non-conference game, 8-1, in the opener. Miami then took down Brown, 6-4, in the nightcap. (Recap) This Week: The RedHawks open up conference play with three home games against Ball State this weekend, starting with Friday's series opener at 3 p.m. The two teams will then faceoff in a doubleheader on Saturday that is set to begin at 1 p.m.
Baseball
Last Week: Miami began the week with midweek contests against two local rivals. On Tuesday, the RedHawks made the quick trip to Cincinnati. The game was a pitcher's duel through the first four frames, but the tide turned beginning in the fifth. The Bearcats went on to outscore the 'Hawks 7-2 in the fifth through seventh innings, and eventually held on to win by the same score (Recap). After that, the team's focus shifted to Wednesday and their matchup with Xavier. After the RedHawks grabbed a quick 2-0 lead through one inning, the game was almost all Musketeers from then on. Xavier used four home runs to help down the Red & White, 12-4 (Recap). Miami's fortune changed Friday as they jumped all over Richmond, winning 14-7. Steve Sada led the way with a 4-for-5 day at the plate which included a career-high four runs batted in. In addition, four RedHawks collected home runs and seven Miami hitters, including Sada, finished with two or more hits (Recap). On Saturday, the Spiders scored all ten of their runs in innings three through six as they defeated the RedHawks, 10-3 (Recap). Sunday's series finale and rubber match was cancelled due to inclement weather. This Week: The Red & White are set to play four games this week, beginning Wednesday with the team's home opener (take two) against Northwestern at 6 p.m. The 'Hawks will then remain home and open up a three game set with Ball State on Friday at 6 p.m., which marks the opening of Mid-American Conference play.
Women's Tennis
Last Week: Miami was idle. This Week: The RedHawks will conclude their non-conference schedule with a road trip to the University of South Alabama in Mobile, Ala. Miami will face the No. 39 Jaguars on Wednesday at 1 p.m., followed by a matchup against No. 71 Old Dominion on Friday at 11 a.m.
Women's Swimming & Diving
Last Week: Junior diver Pei Lin ended the RedHawks season by competing in the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships. She placed second with a score of 399.40 in the three-meter dive, just narrowly missing first place by 5.30 points. Nevada's Sharae Zheng (404.70), who won the one-meter dive Thursday night, won the three-meter event on Friday. Lin bested Florida's Kahila Warner by 12.20 points. Lin placed third in the one-meter dive, tallying 332.20 points. She finished behind Zheng (344.95) and UCLA's Eloise Belanger (336.00). Her efforts put Miami in 24th place in the meet, the best in school history (One-meter Recap) (Three-meter Recap) (Meet Recap).
Golf Recap
Last Week: Miami was idle. This Week: The RedHawks participate in a pair of tournaments over the spring break week. Miami is in San Antonio for the Lone Star Invitational Monday and Tuesday. The Red and White will then head to the FAU Slomin Autism Invitational Friday through Sunday.
