Hutton Named NCHC Defenseman of the Week

OXFORD, Ohio - Freshman defenseman Grant Hutton's (Carmel, Ind./Janesville (NAHL)) big night at Bowling Green earned the Miami hockey blue liner Defenseman of the Week honors from the National Collegiate Hockey Conference on Monday.

Hutton is earning the award for the first time this season after dishing out two assists in last Friday's 4-1 win at No. 19 Bowling Green. The Carmel, Ind., native's performance was his first-career multi-point game and he also finished a season-best +3 on the ice as the RedHawk defense held the Falcons to just 22 shots on goal in a winning effort.

This is the second time that a Miami defenseman has earned the NCHC honor this season as Hutton joins Matthew Caito, who earned the award on Jan. 26.

Hutton is riding a season-best three-game point streak entering the RedHawks' upcoming weekend series at Western Michigan, which starts on Friday night with a 7 p.m. puck drop.
