RedHawks Have Strong Day Two at Music City Challenge

NASHVILLE - The Miami RedHawks track and field squad closed out competition at the Music City Challenge on Saturday, with nine RedHawks recording personal-best performances. A number of those made their way into Miami's all-time top-10 performance lists.
The first records of the day fell in the women's 3000m, where Brenna Poulsen clocked in at 9:48.89 to finish third overall, setting a new personal best and earning the eighth-fastest 3000m performance in Miami history. Fellow RedHawk Alesha Vovk was 11th in 10:03.34. In the men's 3000m, Andrew Dusing led the `Hawks in his 3000m debut, finishing eighth in 8:13.62. Stephen Biebelhausen and Cody Reisterer both set new personal bests of 8:33.61 and 8:44.72 for 22nd and 25th place, respectively. Poulsen's time automatically qualifies her for the Mid-American Conference Championships and gives her the 10th-fastest time in the conference.
Laura Bess laid down a new personal best in the mile, coming in at 4:47.52 for sixth place. This improved on her old mark by two seconds and came 1.01 seconds shy of breaking Kelley Miller's 2010 school record. Kelsey Khols (5:00.72; 22nd), Alex Cameron (5:05.46; 29th), Taylor Broerman (5:10.35; 35th) and Kirsten Petrosky (5:14.76; 40th) also set new personal-best times in the mile. Bess' mile gives her the fourth fastest mile in the MAC.
In 400m action, Kathie Wollney and Kalliopi Kountouri also smashed their personal records with Wollney (11th) clocking in at 56.30 and Kountouri (13th) turning in a time of 56.43. These marks move them in to 11th and 12th in the conference standings. Wollney takes the seventh spot on Miami's all-time performance list and Kountouri takes ninth. In men's action, Adam Bodrick and Jake Owens took the ninth and 10th spots finishing in 49.65 and 49.71, respectively.
In the 60m hurdles, Alexus Jimson-Miller laid down her fastest performance of the season, clocking in at 8.51 to finish third. This effort gives her the fastest 60m hurdles time in the MAC this season. Fellow RedHawks Caitlyn Redmon (8.99) and Morgan Rice (9.11) finished the day in 17th and 20th, respectively.
The duo of Megan Beaver and Alexis Szivan took on the 800m. Beaver finished 13th overall in 2:13.20 and Szivan in 23rd with a time of 2:16.45. Beaver improves her season-best time by .54 seconds to jump three places to 10th in the MAC standings.
In the shot put, Arionna Darling finished second on a mark of 50-7.5. Ashley Frahm marked 45-4.25 to finish seventh and Katie Walter was ninth with a throw of 42-10.25. In the men's competition Andrew Vollet finished fifth on a throw of 52 feet.
The women's 60m saw Briah Owens lead the way finishing in 7.89 for 17th, followed closely by Arissa Freeman (18th; 7.90). Lauren Schattinger was 31st in 8.17 and Caitlyn Redmon was 32nd in 8.20. Avery Taylor was the top RedHawk for the men at 60m as he finished 12th in 7.15. Matt Owens posted a time of 7.22 for 15th and Jake Hensh rounded out the Miami competitors with a time of 7.80 for 19th.
In the runways, Caitlyn Redmon marked 17-8.75 in the long jump to finish eighth on the day while the pole vault saw Hope Turner finish 18th after clearing a height of 11-7.75.
To close out the competition, the 4x400m saw the women's squad of Kountouri, Beaver, Jimson-Miller and Wollney team up to finish fifth in 3:49.63. In the men's contest Owens, Bodrick, Joey Comisford and Taylor posted a time of 3:22.43 for seventh overall.
The RedHawks will be in action next weekend at the Buckeye Tune-Up on Friday.
