OXFORD, Ohio - Cody Reichard, senior goaltender for the Miami Hockey team, has made quite a splash with his entrepreneurial spirit in the formation of Swoop's Stoop. The program started during the 2010-11 Miami Ice Hockey season, when Cody and teammates wanted to help sick children that were in Cincinnati Children's Hospital. The program at the time was small, with Cody and teammates making regular visits to Children's Hospital trying to brighten the spirits of the children affected by any illness.
In its second year, the program has grown to include a recognition of a `Swoop's Stoop Survivor' at every Friday home ice hockey game. With the help of philanthropic donations from private supporters and Step Resources, more initiatives have started, which include purchasing blankets for kids at the hospital, a new goaltender mask for Cody with Swoop's Stoop branding that will be auctioned off at the close of the season, and a Swoop's Stoop themed game on Feb. 11 when the Miami Hockey team will wear commemorative Swoop's Stoop jerseys and welcome many Children's Hospital patients and families to the game.
As the program continues to grow we are offering more ways for people to be philanthropically involved. Starting this weekend against Northern Michigan University, Miami fans will have the opportunity to pledge an amount of money (of their choice) for every goal that Miami scores at home during the remainder of the 2011-12 season. The Swoop's Stoop 'Go for Goal' program will help support the Swoop's Stoop initiatives to provide a better `life experience' for Cincinnati Children's patients and their families.
To get involved with the initiative, please contact the Miami Athletic Development office at 513-529-8097 or rwclub@muohio.edu. Goals will be tracked through the end of the season (including any home playoff games in which Miami participates). At the conclusion of the season, the Athletic Development office will contact you directly to make payment. To learn more about Swoop's Stoop, click here.
