ATHENS, Ohio - The Miami University volleyball team dropped an 0-3 (14-25, 20-25, 16-25) decision to Ohio Saturday night. Lisa Treadway led the Red and White with nine kills. The RedHawks fall to 10-6 overall and 1-1 in the Mid-American Conference, while the Bobcats improve to 10-6 overall and 2-0 in the MAC.
Kills by Treadway and Amy Raseman, along with an Ohio attack error, gave Miami a 3-1 lead to begin set one. The Bobcats would respond with a 7-2 run to take an 8-5 advantage. The RedHawks fought back with kills by Cassie Farrell and Jenn Caylor, and a block by Raseman and Christina Menche, but Ohio still held an 11-9 advantage. After a block by Chelsea Visk and Amy Kendall, Miami trailed by a score of 12-15. From there, Ohio would score four straight points to push the advantage to seven. An attack error by the Bobcats and a kill by Caylor off of Kendall's assist would make it 14-19, but Ohio would score the next six points to take a 25-14 win.
Miami got kills from several players, including two from Treadway as set two started out even. After the RedHawks tied the score at 10 on a service ace by Tori Clifford, Ohio went on a 7-4 run to take a 17-14 lead. Meg Riley and Madison Dodd would record back-to-back kills to pull the Red and White to within one. It would be as close as Miami could get, as after a kill by Raseman made it 20-22, the Bobcats would take the next three points to earn the 25-20 victory.
Treadway recorded two more kills as the RedHawks played Ohio to a 5-5 tie through the first 10 points of set three. A 10-2 run by the Bobcats would allow them to take control of the set. Trailing 12-21, Miami scored three straight points off two blocks and a kill by Kayleigh Cox, but it would not be enough as Ohio eventually took the match with a 25-16 win.
In addition to Treadway's nine kills, Raseman contributed six. Kendall led the way with 18 assists, while Madison Hardy had nine digs.
Miami returns home next weekend for two MAC matches. The RedHawks will host Buffalo on Friday and Akron on Saturday. Both matches will begin at 7 p.m. and will be available to view on the Miami All-Access subscription package.
