The teams traded points until it was 21-16 in favor of the Huskies. A double block from Amy Raseman and Farrell, and kills from Jenn Caylor and Farrell would pull the RedHawks to within three at 19-22. Tied at four in the second set, a kill by Kayleigh Cox gave Miami its first lead of the match. The teams traded the lead three more times until the score was tied at 10. A 9-5 run by the Huskies would put NIU in front, 19-15. A kill from Caylor and a service ace by Madison Dodd were part of a 6-2 RedHawk answer that made it 19-21. The Huskies would take three of the next five points to create set point at 24-21. Miami did not give up as a Northern attack error and a kill by Raseman made it 23-24 and forced a Huskie timeout. After the break, NIU was able to put down a kill to take the set, 25-23.
The key portion of the third set came with the score tied at five. The Huskies would go on a 9-4 run to establish a 16-9 lead. Miami would score the next two points off kills by Farrell and Christina Menche, but Northern Illinois would another 5-1 run to make it 21-12 and put the set out of reach. Menche and Caylor would put down a couple of final kills, but the Huskies would go on to capture a 25-15 win.
