Tied at nine in the first set, Buffalo went on a 9-5 run to open an 18-14 lead. Jenn Caylor helped keep Miami in the set with three consecutive kills off Amy Kendall assists, but Marisa Hornbaker responded with three straight kills of her own to help the Bulls finish off the set, 25-18.
A service ace by Kendall and a kill from Colleen Loftus helped Miami get off to a good start in set two. Buffalo went on another run in the middle of the set and eventually opened up a 17-10 lead. The RedHawks fought back as Madison Dodd had two kills and Amy Raseman also contributed one as they pulled to within four at 19-23. Set three was a struggle early on as Miami would fall behind, 9-16. Once again the RedHawks would fight their way back into the contest. Two kills apiece from Raseman and Michele Metzler would spark an 8-4 run that got Miami to within three at 17-20. However, the Bulls responded by scoring the next three points. From there, Michelle Mangia and Raseman would each put down a kill, but it would not be enough and Buffalo finished the match with a 25-20 win.
Caylor led the RedHawks with nine kills. Jackie Lang had 11 digs on defense. Miami had six solo blocks during the contest, including two each from Metzler and Raseman.
The RedHawks return to action on Saturday when they travel to Akron for a 7 p.m. match.
