It was a week where Miami had individuals claim Mid-American Conference titles and an alumnus win Olympic gold. As two sports wrapped up their season last week, three teams vie for national titles this week while several others round out the regular season and head into tournament action.

Congratulations to Miami hockey alumnus Dan Boyle for winning the gold medal with Team Canada at the Olympics on Sunday in a thrilling overtime win. A defenseman for Team Canada, Boyle finished the games with one goal and five assists.
Congratulations also go out to former Miami strength and conditioning coach and Miami alumnus Dan Dalrymple, who has been tabbed by the Professional Football Strength and Conditioning Coaches Society as the 2009 recipient of the Professional Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Year Award. Dalrymple joined the New Orleans Saints staff in 2006 and helped them to a Super Bowl title this year.
The women's swimming and diving team concluded its season, hosting the MAC Championships this weekend. A big thank you to ALL the people who helped put on the four-day event. The RedHawks surged back into title contention over the final two days of the Mid-American Conference Championships, finishing second overall to Toledo. The runner-up finish marks the 15th time in the last 17 years that the RedHawks have finished first or second and preserved their streak of finishing in the top four every year since the program became a varsity sport in 1975. Juniors Kelsey Vehr and Megan Brunn were First-Team All-MAC selections, while freshman Maegan O'Connor, freshman Leah Thornton and senior Kelsey Anagnos were Second-Team All-MAC honorees. Vehr, who won individual titles in the 100 and 200 breaststroke and 400 individual medley, set a pool records in the 400 IM and 200 breaststroke, while senior Kasey Carpenter broke her own school record in the 200 backstroke.

Women's indoor track & field also competed at the MAC Championships last weekend at Central Michigan. The RedHawks finished in fourth place. Junior Kelley Miller finished first in the mile run, while Miami's distance medley relay of Miller, junior Ruth Rasch, junior Katie Lenahan and senior Amanda Mirochna earned a first-place finish. Miami next competes at the Alex Wilson Invitational in South Bend, Ind., March 5-6.

Men's swimming and diving is in action this week, competing at the MAC Championships in Ypsilanti, Mich., March 4-6.
Before all three RedHawk synchronized skating teams head to the U.S. National Championships this weekend, they will host an exhibition of their programs at 5 p.m. Monday, March 1 at Steve Cady Arena at the Goggin Ice Center. The exhibition is free and open to the public. The RedHawk senior team is the defending national champion and tries to earn a sixth-straight ISU World Championship berth with a top-two finish at nationals. Miami's collegiate team has dominated the division and is the five-time defending national champion in search of the program's 12th national title. The national championships are March 4-6 in Minneapolis, Minn.

Hockey (24-5-7; 21-2-5-2 CCHA) concluded its regular season last weekend, hosting Ohio State Friday and traveling to battle the Buckeyes Saturday. A flurry of second-period action lit up the scoreboard as No. 2 Miami defeated Ohio State 6-2 Friday on Senior Night. Six different RedHawks scored goals with players from all four lines contributing to a goal. Senior Jarod Palmer, junior Andy Miele and junior Vincent LoVerde each tallied a goal and an assist. (RECAP) Miami and Ohio State battled for 65 minutes on Saturday with plenty of scoring chances but RedHawk sophomore Connor Knapp and Buckeye Dustin Carlson each kept the opponent at bay. The result was just the third scoreless tie in Miami hockey history Saturday at Value City Arena. (RECAP) Miami earned a first-round bye in the CCHA Tournament that commences this weekend and returns to action March 12-14, hosting a second-round opponent to be determined.
Men's basketball hosts Buffalo at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 4 in the regular-season finale in a game that will be televised on Fox Sports Net. The broadcast of the game will begin at 6:30 p.m. on the Miami ISP Sports Network Affiliate Stations. The RedHawks will honor seniors Kenny Hayes, Adam Fletcher and Michael Aluise prior to the game. Miami (12-17) enters the week with an 8-7 Mid-American Conference record after a last-second loss at Ohio last Wednesday (RECAP) and a closely contested loss at Kent State last Saturday. (RECAP) The RedHawks still have a chance to earn a bye in the first round of the MAC Tournament with a win on Thursday and pending the results of other games around the league but would host a first-round game on Sunday if they did not earn a bye.
Women's basketball (8-20; 6-9 MAC) has secured hosting a first-round game in the MAC Tournament on Saturday, March 6. The RedHawks conclude the regular season hosting Bowling Green at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 2. Miami will honor its seniors Courtney Reed and Ashleigh Brown prior to the game. Last week, the RedHawks suffered losses at Ohio (RECAP) and at Akron. (RECAP) Reed tied the Miami career record for games played (123) on Saturday. She currently shares the mark with former Miami standout Jeanna Schone. The opponent for Miami's first-round game will be determined following Tuesday's conclusion of the regular season.

Congratulations to junior Adam Eaton, who was tabbed MAC East Division Player of the Week last week. (RELEASE) Baseball (2-4) went 1-2 at Louisiana-Lafayette last weekend, earning a 7-5 win in 11 innings in the first game of a Saturday doubleheader before falling 13-2 (RECAP) in the nightcap. Miami was edged 5-4 on Sunday. (RECAP) Miami hits the field this weekend for a three-game series at Auburn March 5-7.
Softball (3-4) went 3-2 at the Frost Classic in Chattanooga, Tenn., last weekend. Miami split a pair of games on Friday, downing Rutgers, 4-3, and falling to Tennessee Tech, 5-4. (RECAP) On Saturday, the RedHawks picked up a pair of wins, topping Oakland, 2-1, and defeating Central Connecticut State, 7-1. (RECAP) Miami dropped its Sunday game to Chattanooga, 6-1. (RECAP) The RedHawks return to action March 5-7 at the Miken Classic in Boca Raton, Fla.
Women's tennis (5-2) earned a dominant 7-0 win over Detroit on Sunday where the RedHawks did not drop a single set in their lone match of the week. (RECAP) Miami returns to action mid-week, traveling to Marquette for a 2 p.m. match on March 3.
