OXFORD, Ohio - Miami grabbed an early lead against Kent State on Friday, but ultimately fell, 1-3 (25-21, 15-25, 22-25, 16-25) to the Golden Flashes. The RedHawks fall to 6-12 overall and 1-4 in the Mid-American Conference. Kent State improves to 9-11 overall and 2-3 in the MAC.

A service ace by Lisa Treadway and a kill from Colleen Loftus helped stake Miami to a 6-4 lead in set one. The RedHawks extended the lead to 10-5 thanks to a double block by Cassie Farrell and Amy Raseman, along with a kill from Raseman off of Amy Kendall's assist. The lead hovered around five points until a Kent State run pulled it to within two at 20-22. Loftus and Michele Metzler followed with kills to create set point. After a service error, Miami took the set, 25-21, when Raseman scored another kill.

Kills from Loftus and Metzler, along with a Kent State attack error put the RedHawks quickly in front, 3-0, in set two. The Golden Flashes would respond with the next seven points to open up a four point lead. After another Metzler kill, Kent State would go on a 13-7 run to build a 20-11 advantage and put the set out of reach. The Golden Flashes would eventually take the second frame by a 25-15 score.
