Red Team Captures Annual Fall Series

OXFORD, Ohio -- Miami's annual fall baseball series between teams of Red and White has concluded with the Red Team taking the title in the best-of-five series. The first three games were tightly-contested before the Red clinched the championship in Game No. 4.
Recaps of the games follow:
Game 3 -- White 3, Red 2 (11 innings)
In a game that took two days to complete, the White team stayed alive in the series with a 3-2 win in 11 innings. The game started on Thursday with 10 innings before being finished before the regularly-scheduled game on Friday.
Sophomore catcher Nate Bowles went 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles. He drove in the game-winner with a two-bagger off the fence in the bottom of the 11th. Freshman Drew Wills tied the game in the sixth with a clutch, two-out single. Lefty Shawn Marquardt pitched four solid innings, while sophomore Brandon Adkins three scoreless innings in relief. The White team made three outstanding defensive plays to stay in the game: Steve Crea ran down a smash to deep center field, Bryan Beaver saved the game with a diving catch in right center and Marcus Makuch robbed Bryce Redeker of a home run in the top of the 11th.
The Red team got a solid effort on the mound from Seth Varner (4 IP, 3 hits, 1 run) and Charlie Suich (3 scoreless innings, 2 hits, 4 Ks). Redeker also made a diving catch on the warning to send the game into extra innings.
Game 4 -- Red 5, White 0
The Red team clinched the annual fall series with a 5-0 shutout of the White on Friday. Bryce Redeker was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs batted in, plus made a diving catch in left center to rob Adam Weisenburge of xtra bases in 5th inning. Ryan Brenner was 2-for-4 including a bunt single. Sam Dawes closed the foor for the final 1.1 innings to earn the save.
The White team was led by freshman left-hander Andrew Brown, who did not allow an earned run in four innings. He surrendered only two hits, while walking two.
