Miami Clinches Series Win Over Eagles With 8-5 Victory

OXFORD, Ohio – The RedHawks picked up their second conference win of the season Saturday in an 8-5 showdown against Eastern Michigan. Freshman Cameron Novak had his first start of the season and struck out six batters during the contest. Miami moves to 10-4 (2-0 MAC) with the win, while EMU drops to 4-11 (0-2 MAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Starting on the mound for the RedHawks, Novak sent down three straight batters on 10 pitches, including two strikeouts.
- The RedHawks put up four runs in the bottom of the first. Tommy Harrison hit a two-run double to score Ryan Novak and Evan Appelwick, who had each walked. Carson Raether doubled to score Harrison and an HBP and a fielder's choice forced Raether home to make it 4-0.
- Miami extended their lead by three runs in the second. Marcus Dierks led off with a double and scored on a groundout. After two walks and a wild pitch, Dominic Krupinski singled to add two to the scoreboard, making it 7-0.
- Cameron Novak had another three up, three down inning in the third that included two strikeouts.
- Harrison scored Appelwick with a single in the fourth with an RBI single to make it 8-1.
- Eastern added one run on two hits in the top of the fifth.
- The Eagles turned two hits and an error into three more runs in the top of the ninth. Austin Berggren came in to make the save and round out an 8-5 victory.

- Dierks went 2-for-4 with a run and a double.
- Appelwick went 1-for-2 with two runs and three walks.
- Harrison went 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBIs.
- Raether went 1-for-1 with two runs.
- Cameron Novak pitched 4.2 innings and threw six strikeouts.
