RedHawks Roll Past Eagles in Home Opener, 13-3

OXFORD, Ohio – Miami defeated the Eastern Michigan Eagles Friday 13-3 behind a six-run seventh inning. Carson Raether lit up the stat sheet for Miami, producing seven runs alongside two doubles and four RBIs. Miami moves to 9-4 (1-0 MAC) with the win, while EMU drops to 4-10 (0-1 MAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The RedHawks came out swinging in the first inning, taking a 1-0 lead on an RBI groundout by Tommy Harrison that scored Marcus Dierks.
- The Eagles tied it 1-1 in the top of the third inning with a home run.
- Miami manufactured two runs in the fourth inning, scoring one off a triple by Raether, who then scored on a passed ball during the following at bat to make it 3-1.
- The RedHawks extended their lead in the sixth inning off a double by Raether that scored Dominic Krupinski and Evan Applewick to make it 5-1.
- Eastern Michigan scored off an RBI triple in the top of the seventh to cut the deficit to 5-2.
- In the bottom of the seventh, the RedHawks brought the bats, scoring six runs. A triple by Dierks followed by RBI doubles by Ryan Novak, Applewick and Raether made it 8-2. A sacrifice fly by Mason Breidenbach, followed by a two-run home run by Ignacio Gonzalez, made the tally 11-2.
- The Eagles made it 11-3 on a passed ball in the eighth.
- The RedHawks tacked on their last runs in the eighth inning via a sac fly by pinch hitter Keenan Proctor and an RBI single by Raether that made it 13-3. This enacted the run rule and capped off a home opener victory for Miami.
MIAMI GAME NOTES:
- Raether went 4-for-5 with two runs and five RBIs, the most in a game in his career.
- Dierks went 3-for-4 with three runs.
- Gonzalez went 2-for-3 with a run and two RBIs. His home run was the second of his career.
- Harrison recorded his 17th RBI of the season, tied for the league lead.
- Zac Sohosky pitched 5.0 innings, holding opponents to just one run on two hits while striking out four batters.
UP NEXT:
The RedHawks will face the Eagles again at home tomorrow for game two of their three-game series. First pitch is currently scheduled for 1 p.m.
