CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Miami field hockey team fell to sixth-ranked Virginia 7-0 on Friday. It was the season opening game for both teams.

The RedHawks were hurt by giving up three goals in the first 19 minutes against the more experienced Cavaliers. Despite this, head coach Jill Reeve was encouraged by the team's performance.

"The score did not reflect the effort," said Reeve. "That said, the team could have put forth more a challenge to Virginia. We did not step up when we had opportunities (to score). Mary Hull and Amanda Seeley played well for us today."

Hull and Kate Snyder recorded shots on goal for the RedHawks. Abbey Huck made five saves in net.

The RedHawks return to action Saturday when they take on VCU in Charlottesville, Va. at 1 p.m.

"I hope the team reflects on this game as they have a chance for a do-over," said Reeve. "We just need to work together as a team."
