Fifth Seed Michigan Defeats Miami 11-3 in NCAA Regional

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - In the resumption of yesterday's suspended game, the number five national seed Michigan defeated Miami 11-3 in six innings Saturday at the NCAA Regional in Ann Arbor. The RedHawks fall to 32-23 overall, while the Wolverines improve to 42-10.
Miami will take on Cleveland State in an elimination game at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
After starting pitcher Jessica Simpson quickly set down the Wolverines in the bottom of the third. Alicia Hogl led off the top of the fourth inning with a home run to tie the score at three. Michigan responded with a home run in the bottom of the fourth to retake the lead at 4-3.
The Hogl home run chased Michigan starter Nikki Nemitz out of the game, as Jordan Taylor relieved her starting in the fifth inning. The RedHawks were unable to manage any hits against Taylor, while Michigan broke the game open with five runs in the bottom of the fifth and two more in the bottom of the sixth to take a run-rule victory.
Mawn finished the game 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run scored. Hogl was 1-for-3 with an RBI and one run scored.
