Final Stats

OXFORD, Ohio - The Miami University volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 victory over Kent State in Mid-American Conference play Friday night. The RedHawks improve to 8-7 overall and 2-1 in the MAC. The Golden Flashes are 12-4 overall and 2-1 in the MAC. Miami hit an impressive .369 over the entire match.

The RedHawks scored a dominating 25-12 win in set one. The story of the set was the four service aces Miami recorded. After a kill by Michele Metzler to open the match, Andrea Atteberry scored the first ace to make the score 2-0. Metzler recorded another kill to give the RedHawks a 3-1 lead, which was followed by Emily Schroeder downing an ace of her own. From there, Miami went on a 12-5 run to take a 16-6 lead. Kent State took a timeout, but Megan Griffin came out of the break and recorded two straight aces. The teams traded points the remainder of the set, and Griffin scored the kill on set point.

Hallie Hanks scored the first three kills of set two off assists from Atteberry, as Miami jumped to a 3-1 lead. The Golden Flashes went on a 9-7 run to tie the score at 10. The RedHawks were able to regain control of the set with an 8-2 run of their own, that featured two kills each from Metzler and Amy Raseman. Kent State did not give in as they pulled to within two points at 21-23. Maria Leahy recorded a solo block to set up set point for Miami. After the Golden Flashes recorded a kill to fight off one set point, Hanks scored a kill off an assist from Atteberry to take the second set 25-22.

Miami overcame an early 1-3 deficit to take a 9-4 lead in set three. From there, a 13-2 run broke the set open and gave the RedHawks the 21-6 lead. During that run, Griffin recorded two blocks and Atteberry set up seven kills. The Golden Flashes went on an 8-3 run to pull within 10, at 14-24, but the lead was insurmountable as Hanks put down the match-winning kill to take set three 25-14.

Griffin recorded 12 kills with an .857 hitting percentage to lead Miami. Metzler and Hanks scored 10 kills each, while Atteberry had 35 assists.

The RedHawks return to action Sunday when they host Ohio at 3 p.m.
