MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - The Miami University field hockey team improved to 4-6 on the year and 2-2 in the MAC with a 5-3 win at Central Michigan University on Friday afternoon.
Junior midfielder Teja Kammler led the RedHawks to the win, scoring two goals off the bench, while sophomore midfielder Maggie Marcum continued her hot play of late with a goal and an assist to send the Chippewas to 1-7 on the year and 0-1 in the MAC.
Senior back Courtney Furia also scored a goal as did freshman Christine Brightwell.
Kammler's two goals opened the scoring, coming in the 10th and 14th minute off assists from Alyssa Nye and Laura Seidel. Marcum scored next, just after intermission, on a deflected shot with an assist from Courtney Fretz. Furia scored in the 44th minute to make the count 4-0 with an assist from Marcum.
Brightwell closed out the Miami scoring after a CMU goal when she scored off a Kate Snyder assist in the 59th minute.
Kelsey Dean played all 70 minutes in goal, holding Central scoreless in the first half and ending with four saves.
Central had six penalty corners to Miami's four, while the RedHawks outshot the hosts 14-11.
Miami will travel to Ann Arbor on Sunday for a non-conference match-up with University of Michigan at 1 p.m.
