Miami Downs Saint Francis 6-1

OXFORD, Ohio – The RedHawks dominated Saint Francis Sunday in a 6-1 contest after scoring three goals during the first period. Miami amassed 20 shots over the course of the game alongside nine penalty corners. Miami moves to 2-0 with the victory while Saint Francis falls to 1-1 with the loss.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Miami's first goal came from midfielder Justina Intzes on a penalty corner halfway through the first period. Becca Lawn inserted the ball and Berta Mata assisted.
  • Less than two minutes later, Bet Gifra scored her first goal of the season unassisted to double the RedHawks' lead to 2-0.
  • After the RedHawks came up empty on two penalty corners, Meg Canfield scored her first goal of the season to make it 3-0. The goal was assisted by Sloane Wearren.
  • Midway through the second period, Miami took a 4-0 lead as Judit Garcia Gregori set up Riley Mazzalupi to score.
  • Intzes earned her second goal of the game with five minutes left in the half to give the RedHawks a commanding 5-0 lead after two periods. The score came on another penalty corner where Lawn inserted and Mata delivered the assist.
  • Saint Francis found the back of the net in the third period, making it a 5-1 contest four minutes into the half.
  • Gifra answered with Miami's sixth goal of the game, her second, nine minutes into the period.
  • A physical fourth period with four total yellow cards and a green card ended scoreless for both teams, capping off a 6-1 RedHawk victory.
UP NEXT: Miami field hockey will return to the field this Friday, Sept. 5 for a home match against New Hampshire. The game will start at 1 p.m.
