RedHawks Topple New Hampshire, 4-1

OXFORD, Ohio – Miami took a commanding 4-1 win over a tough New Hampshire team Friday, accumulating 21 shots and seven penalty corners over 60 minutes. Junior Back Lucia Ventos scored two goals unassisted to lead the RedHawks to remain undefeated. The RedHawks improve to 3-0 with the victory while New Hampshire falls to 0-3 with the loss.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • After an aggressive start for New Hampshire that resulted in three shots and two penalty corners in the game's first 90 seconds, Miami's stepped up, holding the Wildcats to zero shots during the remainder of the period.
  • Ventos netted a goal unassisted six minutes into the first period to put Miami up 1-0.
  • 30 seconds into the second period, Sloane Wearren earned her fourth assist of the season as Justina Intzes buried a shot to double the lead to 2-0.
  • The third period held scoreless for both teams despite five shots from the RedHawks.
  • Malena Sabez capitalized on a penalty corner early in the fourth period, scoring off an assist from Berta Mata to make it 3-0.
  • Ventos scored her second solo goal of the game later in the fourth to ensure the RedHawk advantage.
  • New Hampshire answered with a goal late in the game, but was unable to close the gap, finalizing Miami's victory.
UP NEXT: The RedHawks will square off against the University of Iowa next Friday, Sept. 12 at 3:30 p.m. The game will take place in Louisville, Ky. as a part of the Midwest Challenge.
