Florence got on the board first when she scored in the 14th minute, deflecting a shot off Cardinal defenders. Ball State scored just after intermission, but Fretz put the RedHawks back in the lead when she scored off an Alyssa Nye assist in the 49th minute.

A Cardinal goal in the 51st minute would knot the game at 2-2, but McMurtry scored the game winning goal in the final seconds of play off a penalty corner.

Miami outshot the hosts 17-4 and had 14 shots on target compared to three for Ball State.

The RedHawks will host Kent State and Ohio on Saturday and Sunday, respectively with both match-ups starting at 1 p.m.
