Tim Pollitz, Peavy Lead RedHawks Past Eastern Michigan, 74-64

YPSILANTI, Mich.--Behind a 22-point performance from junior forward Tim Pollitz and a 21-point effort from senior forward Nathan Peavy, Miami University's men's basketball team collected the program's 550th Mid-American Conference win with a 74-64 triumph at Eastern Michigan on Wednesday evening.
Miami has won six of its last seven games, including three straight The win evened the RedHawks' record to 11-11 and upped their league mark to 7-3, while the Eagles dropped to 8-15 overall and 3-7 in MAC play.
Eastern Michigan led through out the much of the first half with Miami taking its only lead during the first 20 minutes off a Tim Pollitz jumper at the 8:25 mark to post a 21-20 advantage. Eastern Michigan used a balanced attack to go on a 7-0 run to notch a 27-21 lead by the 6:07 mark. Miami was able to close within two points three times, including a layup by Tim Pollitz as time expired in the half to put Miami within 31-29 of Eagles.
Brandon Bowdry tossed in a layup for the Eagles just seconds into the second half to put the Eagles up 33-29, but Miami went on a 7-0 run off a pair of Peavy free throws, a Peavy layup and a sophomore guard/forward Michael Bramos 3-pointer to give the RedHawks a 36-33 edge. A 3-pointer by senior guard Doug Penno handed the RedHawks a 41-37 lead with 15:08 to play.
The Eagles came back to knot the game 41-41 and 43-43, but The RedHawks went on a 9-0 run off another Penno trey, two senior center Monty St. Clair free throws and a St.Clair layup and a layup by Tim Pollitz to capture a 52-43 lead with 8:33 to play. EMU closed within three points with 2:22 to play off a Devon Dumes 3-pointers and was within four points with 41 seconds remaining off a Craig Cashen 3-pointer, 68-64. Freshman guard Alex Moosmann nailed four free throws and Tim Pollitz knocked down two charity tosses to secure the 74-64 win for the RedHawks.
Miami shot a sizzling 57.8 percent from the field, including 66.7 percent in the second half. Tim Pollitz and Peavy led all scorers with 22 and 21 points, respectively. It was the fourth time in five games Tim Pollitz has amassed 20 or more points.
Jarred Axon paced EMU with 14 points, while Jesse Bunkley tallied 11 points.
Miami returns home to round at the West Division portion of its schedule, hosting Ball State at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10.
