OXFORD, Ohio - The Miami University men's basketball team defeated Chicago State University, 74-68, on Tuesday night at Millett Hall in Oxford, Ohio.
Tim Pollitz led all scorers with a career-high 26 points on 13-of-22 shooting and narrowly missed a triple-double with nine assists and eight rebounds. Kenny Hayes hit for 15 points with four three pointers and eight rebounds. Alex Moosmann chipped in 10 points, including the go-ahead triple with 2:26 left to play.
The Cougars' David Holston scored a game-high 27 points on 11-of-22 shooting with four threes and a team-high eight assists. John Cantrell scored 14 points for CSU, all in the first half.
Miami's 45 second-half points are the most points the RedHawks have scored in a half this season and the third consecutive game Miami has scored at least 40 points in a half.
The RedHawks dished out 22 assists setting a season high for assists in a game. Miami's previous high for assists in a game was 18 against Mississippi State on Nov. 25, 2007. Miami's last game with 20 assists was against Ohio on Jan. 21, 2007.
Miami is now 5-4 on the season and will travel to the University of Illinois on Thursday for a 6 p.m. CT tip off with the Fighting Illini.
On Saturday, the RedHawks go to Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence, Kansas for a noon CT game versus the #3 Kansas Jayhawks.
