Recap | Final Stats | Notes
Miami Coach Charlie Coles "Boy, did we have to fight to win. What happens to our team sometimes is that we're in so many close games, I think we unconsciously make it close. If you think a game is going to be close, you get a little bit hesitant. In the first half, oooh, it was tough. We shook the Dayton loss off pretty good ... I don't know if we shook the Wright State loss off. I think we were still up in Fairborn tonight."
(on Chicago State) "I told people coming into this game, and I told our players `I think you're going to see a show'. You're going to see a little kid (David Holston) who can play, then you're going to see this other kid--(John) Cantrell--who can jump out the gym. They were exciting, and we never got in control of that game. (Chicago State coach Benjy Taylor) did a phenomenal job coaching, and they were feeling it. They came in thinking `This is one we can get.' We've got to work on the way other teams see us."
(on upcoming games against Illinois and Kansas) "We schedule these kinds of game because our guys deserve to play that kind of competition. One of my goals as a coach is to play in all the great arenas of college basketball, and the two we're going to play in these next few days are great arenas. That's going to be exciting for us."
Miami's Tim Pollitz "It was a hard fought battle from the get-go. Their little guys are really quick and tough to defend."
(on Illinois and Kansas) "Coach Coles always schedules tough opponents. We have to go out and play tough defense. Because of the way we play, we always have a shot to stay in the game. To play a great Big Ten team and then a great Big 12 team is a big thrill for us. I know everyone is looking forward to these next two games."
