Miami Falls To Central Michigan in MAC Tournament, 7-2

KENT, Ohio - Defense was the story of game one of the Mid-American Conference (MAC) field hockey tournament (Nov. 7) at Dix Stadium, in game two it was offense as No. 3 Central Michigan University (9-10, 1-0) defeated No. 6 Miami University (1-17, 0-1), 7-2.

Senior Tarah Trottier paced the Chippewa attack scoring four goals, including three in the second half to finish off the RedHawks. Freshman Alicia Balanesi netted two goals as well as the game winner. Freshman goalkeeper Danielle Frank picked up the win for Central Michigan.

Central Michigan dominated the game from the offensive end outshooting Miami 24-13.

"We were a little tight in the beginning and I thought Miami played really well," said Central Michigan head coach Cristy Freese. "We were fortunate to get some good touches and early goals, I really feel like we have some good scorers on our team."

Senior Angie Snedden led the RedHawks scoring one goal, the 24th of her career to move her into an eighth place tie for goals in Miami history. Sophomore Jessica Saling tallied the RedHawks second goal.

"This is a heck of a team," said Miami head coach Lil Fesperman. "Their record is not indicative of their efforts and this group of girls. The senior leadership has been outstanding all season."

Central Michigan will return to action tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. against No. 2 University of Louisville (11-9) at Dix Stadium.
