KALAMAZOO, Mich.-After a non-conference tilt on Wednesday, Miami University's volleyball team returned to Mid-American Conference action on Saturday, Oct. 11 and suffered a four-game loss at Western Michigan. The RedHawks (7-14; 1-5 MAC) fell to the Broncos (11-6; 4-2 MAC) 31-33, 30-20, 19-30 and 28-30.
Although Miami manufactured a solid .467 hitting percentage in the first game, a sizzling .606 hitting percentage by WMU aided the Broncos in edging the RedHawks 33-31. In the second game, Miami out-hit the Broncos .219 to 0.31 en route to the 30-20 win. However with the match knotted 1-1, the Broncos went on to take the next two games, edging the RedHawks in the fourth set, 30-28, to prevent a five-game contest.
Senior outside hitter Tara Buroker paced the RedHawks with at team-best 20 kills and .410 hitting percentage, while junior outside hitter Angie Zent and freshman outside hitter Jordan Centers each notched 11 kills. Centers also served up three aces and knocked down four blocks for the RedHawks. Sophomore setter Megan Clark added 54 assists and sophomore libero Suzy Wolford tallied a team-leading 11 digs.
Miami rounds out its five-match road stretch next week with three road contests. The RedHawks travel to Ball State on Tuesday, Oct. 14 for a 7 p.m (CT) match and then battle Kent State and Akron on Friday and Saturday, respectively. Both match times are set for 7 p.m. (ET).
