RedHawks Fall to IPFW in Four Games

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Miami University's volleyball team dropped to 1-2 with a four-game loss (30-21, 27-30, 24-30, 28-30) at Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne (3-3) Tuesday night.

Melinda McComick led off the first game with an ace, which set the tone for the rest of the game as the RedHawks notched a 30-21 game-one win. Up by as many as 10 (20-10), Miami stayed strong throughout the game. Kelly McCullough and Erika Eagan iced the game with the final two kills.

Down by as many as nine, it looked as if Miami would make a comeback. Spurred by kills from Lee Ann Karr and Kelly McCullough, the RedHawks pulled to within one. McCullough powered down a crucial block to cut the lead to 26-27. IPFW earned its 28th point off a kill and was handed the 29th point on a Miami net violation. The Mastodons produced a kill to take the game 30-27.

Miami got off to a solid start in the third game, leading through the first third of the game. IPFW, however, took a 15-14 lead and never looked back taking a 2-1 lead in the match with a 30-24 win in the third game.

After falling behind by as many as six (22-28), the RedHawks started to make a comeback. McCullough and Tara Buroker teamed up to produce two powerful blocks to tie the match, 28-28. IPFW, however, took the game and the match off a kill and a block.

McCullough paced the RedHawks with 18 kills, a .349 hitting percentage, nine digs and a career-best 11 blocks (2 solo, 9 assist). Eagan notched 13 kills, a match-high 19 digs and four blocks (2 solo, 2 assist). Karr added 12 kills, eight digs and five blocks, while Melinda McCormick posted 39 assists, two service aces and nine digs. Buroker added nine kills and six blocks (one solo, five assist).
