Miami VB Notes ISTAP Collegiate Cup

ISTAP COLLEGIATE CUP: The Red and White hit the road once again for the ISTAP Collegiate Cup on Sept. 11-12. The RedHawks will begin the tournament against Nicholls at 1:30 p.m. ET on Friday, then play their second match of the day in the evening against tournament host Alabama State at 8 p.m. ET. Miami concludes the ISTAP Collegiate Cup by facing off with South Carolina State at 12 p.m. ET on Saturday.

ABOUT NICHOLLS: In the 2025 season, Nicholls went 13-16 and 3-13 in the Southland Conference. The Red and Gray are currently 5-2 after most recently going 3-0 against Alcorn, Wiley and Mississippi Valley State. Nicholls was ranked 11th overall in the Southland Conference Preseason Poll. This week's competition will mark the first time that Miami and Nicholls have faced off.

ABOUT ALABAMA STATE: Alabama State posted a 14-16 record (12-4 Southwestern Athletic Conference) in 2025. The Hornets are currently 0-7 after dropping to UNC Wilmington, West Florida and USC Upstate in the Spartan Classic last week and then following the tournament up with a loss to Gardner-Webb on Saturday. Alabama State was selected to finish fifth overall in this year's Southwestern Athletic Conference Preseason Poll. Returners to watch include setter Kamrynn Clay (Setter of the Year/All-SWAC First Team in 2025) and middle hitter Kaylen Hines (All-SWAC First Team in 2025). The RedHawks and Hornets have never competed in a match.

ABOUT SOUTH CAROLINA STATE: South Carolina State finished the 2025 season with a 5-23 record (1-12 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference). The Bulldogs are now 1-5 after dropping their last five contests. South Carolina State will visit Tuskegee on Thursday, Sept. 10, before heading to the ISTAP Invitational. The Bulldogs were selected to finish eighth in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Preseason Poll. This meeting will be the first time that each school has collided on a volleyball court.

TELEVISION: Miami's matches versus Nicholls and South Carolina State will be available to watch on the Hornet Sports Network. The RedHawks match against Alabama State can be viewed on SWAC TV.

UP NEXT: The Red and White return to the court for a pair of home-and-away matches against Northern Kentucky on Sept. 18-19. The RedHawks will host the Norse on Friday, Sept. 18 and then follow this up by going south to Northern Kentucky on Saturday, Sept. 19.

RECENT ACTION: The RedHawks went 3-0 at the Miami/Best Western Invitational last weekend, with wins against Evansville, Kansas City and Purdue Fort Wayne to reach 5-1 on the season (best start to a season since 2018). For the second consecutive week, Miami has held an opponent under 10 points in a set, as the RedHawks downed Evansville 25-6 in the third set of Friday's match. Sophomore outside hitter Molly Creech was named the Best Western Invitational tournament MVP, and sophomore middle hitter Lindy Radaszewski was named to the All-Tournament Team. Creech recorded 4.27 kills per set while maintaining a .269 hitting percentage. In total, she had 47 kills, four service aces and one assist offensively. She also added 37 digs and a block on defense. Radaszewski put down 1.80 kills per set with a .394 hitting percentage. She totaled 18 kills, 11 digs, six blocks and three service aces.
