BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — The Miami University volleyball team (8-5, 0-2 MAC) lost in three sets (20-25, 19-25, 17-25) to Bowling Green (10-3, 2-0 MAC) on Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Bowling Green got off to a hot start in the first set, as the Falcons claimed an early 6-1 advantage. A flurry of kills and a block from Lauren Coyne and Lydia Michelin helped the RedHawks come within one at 9-8. The Falcons stretched their lead back out to 18-11 before a kill from Molly Creech and a solo block from Michelin forced a Bowling Green timeout at 18-15. The Red and White closed within two points at 21-19 thanks to two Bowling Green errors, but the effort fell just short as the Falcons earned a 25-20 first-set victory.
After falling behind 4-0 at the beginning of the second set, Creech put down two kills to help the Red and White overtake the Falcons at 5-4. A service error from the home team and a service ace from Rachel Morgan kept Miami in the fight, down 13-10. Despite numerous Creech kills and two late blocks from the RedHawks, Bowling Green went on to seal a 25-19 second-set win.
The Falcons jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the third set when the RedHawks scored five consecutive points behind three blocks from Michelin to trail by just one. Three kills from Sydney Waller kept things competitive at 14-12 before the Falcons responded by taking a 20-13 lead. The Red and White were unable to come back, eventually falling 25-17 in the third set.

NOTES:

Michelin led all players with 10 blocks (tied for the most blocks of her career).
Grace Kreutz recorded the most digs (10) for the Red and White.

The Red and White continue conference play by returning home to play Buffalo Oct. 1-2. The first match will be played on Thursday, Oct. 1 at 6:30 p.m., and then the next match will take place on Friday, Oct. 2 at 6:30 p.m.
