OXFORD, Ohio — The Miami University volleyball team (9-5, 1-2 MAC) rolled past Buffalo (9-5, 1-2 MAC) in three sets (25-19, 25-17, 25-20) on Thursday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Miami opened the match with two blocks and a Chelsea Williams kill to earn an early 4-0 lead. Molly Creech found her rhythm offensively with two kills of her own, and the Bulls hit two attack errors to keep the RedHawks in control at 12-7. The Bulls looked to make a comeback after closing to within two points, 15-13. A flurry of kills and a Holland Van Deusen service ace helped Miami keep control of the set at 22-15. A kill from Williams and a bad set by the Bulls secured the first set for the RedHawks, 25-19.
- Miami got off to a 4-1 start in the second set thanks to a pair of kills from Creech and Raegan Lantz. Buffalo went on to even the score at seven apiece and took its first lead of the set at 10-9. Kills from Lauren Coyne, Creech and Williams sent the RedHawks into the media timeout ahead 15-13. With the Bulls making a push at Miami's lead, Lydia Michelin put down back-to-back kills that were set up by Van Deusen to create separation from the Bulls at 18-15. A block by Miami, a service ace from Madison Brown and a kill from Coyne extended the RedHawk advantage to 22-15. Miami secured a 25-17 second-set victory after the RedHawks recorded a block and Buffalo committed an attack error.
- The Bulls managed to grab a 7-4 lead at the beginning of the third set before kills from Creech and Michelin, as well as a service ace from Brown, knotted the score at 9-9. Trailing 18-17, the Red and White used a 5-0 run to claim momentum of the third set at 22-18. The Red and White scored the final two points of the set after the Bulls had a service error, and Williams smashed her tenth kill to give Miami a 25-20 third-set win.
