BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — The Miami University volleyball team (8-4, 0-1 MAC) dropped a four-set battle to Bowling Green (9-3, 1-0 MAC) in four sets (25-23, 22-25, 30-32, 23-25) on Thursday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Molly Creech and Chelsea Williams combined for five early kills to give Miami a 6-5 lead at the start of the first set. Back-to-back attack errors from the Falcons helped the Red and White hold on to a 12-8 advantage. A fake set that resulted in a kill from Holland Van Deusen, a bad set from Bowling Green and a service error from the home team kept the RedHawks in control at 19-16. A block from Kendall Bosse and Sydney Waller, as well as a kill from Waller, propelled Miami to a 25-23 first-set win.
Two service aces from Van Deusen and four kills from the RedHawks put Miami on top 6-3 in the beginning of the second set. A solo block from Coyne and a kill from Creech kept the RedHawks ahead 9-6 before Bowling Green answered by evening the score at nine apiece. After back-and-forth action, the Falcons managed to take a two-point lead at 20-18. Two late kills from Coyne kept the Red and White in the fight until Bowling Green managed to claim the second set 25-22.
The Falcons pushed ahead 5-2 in the third set, and the RedHawks responded by scoring four consecutive points to overtake Bowling Green 6-5. Two service aces from Madison Brown and an attack error from the home team put the score at 12-9 in favor of Miami. A pair of Raegan Lantz kills forced a Bowling Green timeout at 18-14. Following the break in play, the Falcons went on to knot the score at 19-19. Trailing 24-23, Williams smacked down two kills to help Miami regain a lead at 26-25. Creech also added two late kills, but the effort fell just short as the RedHawks fell 32-30.
Creech and Lydia Michelin combined for a block at the beginning of the fourth set to keep Miami in the fight at 5-5. A block from Coyne and Michelin, as well as a kill from Williams, handed Miami a two-point lead at 11-9. Bowling Green looked to pull away from Miami at 20-17. Two kills from Coyne, a block from the RedHawks and a kill from Creech gave Miami a chance in the final stretch, but the Falcons managed to fend off Miami for a 25-23 fourth-set victory.

NOTES:

Creech recorded the most kills for the Red and White with 14, and Williams finished closely behind with 12 kills of her own.
Van Deusen led the RedHawks with three service aces.
Bosse and Michelin each produced four blocks to lead the RedHawks.
Rachel Morgan totaled the most digs for Miami (23).
